Almost every ship in the Princess Cruises fleet has a dedicated Youth and Teen Center with many activities offered and supervised by professional staff. Beginning with Regal Princess, the company partnered with Discovery Communications, the parent company of the Discovery Channel, to bring a new family program of onboard and shore activities to their ships called Discovery at Sea.
Activities and things to do
Youth and Teen Centers have everything from arts and crafts corners, game tables, movies and swimming pools to teen centers with ping-pong tables, jukeboxes and the latest video games. Some of the Princess Cruises ships even offer a small children’s play area, a children’s pool, computers, and video games. And for teens, special hideouts – Cyberspace, The Fast Lane, Wired, and Off Limits – provide memories kids will remember for years to come. Also, some boats have a separate hot tub and deck area for teens.
All youth and adolescent centers are fully supervised by Princess youth and adolescent staff. Not all children like to eat adult food at meal times, which is why ships offer a special children’s menu on board all Princess ships.
The Princess Kids program features Princess Pelicans, ages 3-7, and Shockwaves, ages 8-12. These children are entertained by ongoing youth program activities such as:
- Arts and crafts
- Videos and cartoons
- Treasure hunt
- Galley Tours
- Sports tournaments
- Behind-the-scenes tours
- Bridge tours
- Disco nights
- Ice cream parties
Remix, designed for teens ages 13-17, offers a wide range of activities such as:
- Teen only disco parties
- Teen only dinners
- Olympic Games on board
- T-shirt painting
- Basketball tournaments
Princess Extras
- Pelican’s Perch : Kids can make the most of their island adventure in this supervised play area on Princess’ private island, Princess Cays. This special play area is supervised by the youth staff on board and provides a safe place for children while parents enjoy the many beach amenities and water sports on offer.
- Happenings on the shore : When the Princess cruise ship is in port, kids will find as much to do ashore as well as on board. The Land Adventures Program offers attractive tours for explorers of all ages.
- Pizza Party : One night during the cruise, a pizza party is offered that allows children to dine without parents in the company of all their friends.
- Kids TV Programming – Kid-friendly TV shows, including cartoons, movies and award-winning shows, can be shown on the television inside the cabin during the early morning, noon and afternoon.
Family cruise tips
The personal meal option is recommended for families who wish to dine together so that the children can fully participate in the evening’s youth activities.
Dining alternatives allow parents the freedom to spend time with their children while dining early in the pizzeria, in the 24-hour restaurant offering a special children’s menu, in the cabin with 24-hour room service, or in the one of many alternative locations
After taking the children to the supervised Youth Center, parents can enjoy dining alone in the elegant dining rooms. Many of the shore excursions have been planned with family cruises in mind. Discounted rates for children and ‘family’ activities are available to make the most of your time in port. The Adventures Ashore brochure has details on these activities.
On embarkation day, the children’s activity schedule for the entire cruise is delivered to the cabins.
