The unusual golden blood, the blood group that only a total of 40 people have

You will have heard of golden blood , because, although it is strange, it exists because it is a blood group that only a total of 40 people have in the whole world. According to the BBC, it is quite unusual. Let’s see what this type of blood consists of.

If we analyze the various blood groups, we find some of the most common such as A + and 0 +, which have 65% of the world’s population. While reference is made to the rarest blood group, which is the AB-, referring to less than 2% of the world population.

And apparently, around the 60s of last century this somewhat different blood appeared, which they called golden, because it has somewhat different characteristics from the rest, for example, that it does not have Rh .

What does it mean to have this blood group?

A large part of people have Rh antigen groups, therefore finding blood donors for them is an impossible mission. If they receive an infusion of the rest of the blood groups, they can die and as there are only 40 identified cases, it is difficult for them to find a donor to give them a blood transfusion.

For these reasons, among others, those who have this so-called golden blood have been asked to donate it so that it can be stored in order to be inoculated with it in case they need it at any time.

What blood groups exist

In general and beyond golden blood, it is important to note that blood is made up of red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets, and plasma.

In total we find eight blood groups :

  • Or negative. This blood group does not have markers A or B and does not have the Rh factor.
  • Or positive. It does not have A or B markers but it does have the Rh factor.
  • A negative. This blood group only has marker A.
  • A positive. This blood group has marker A and Rh factor, but no marker B.
  • B negative. Marker only B.
  • B positive. With marker B and Rh factor, but without marker A.
  • Negative AB. With markers A and B, but without the so-called Rh factor.
  • Positive AB. This group has A, B and Rh factor.

Our blood group is usually given to us at birth but many people over the years do not know which one they have. But this is easy to find out with a test or by looking at your blood type. When the woman is pregnant it is something that is usually said to know if the blood is compatible with that of the baby.
