Summer is here: very warm air flowed into Germany from the Mediterranean on Wednesday. It's supposed to be even hotter today, Thursday.
Frankfurt (dpa) – Very warm air from the Mediterranean area brought the warmest temperatures of the year to many German cities on Wednesday. In particular, maximum temperatures were reached in the west and southwest, as the German Weather Service (DWD) announced on Thursday.
These would likely be exceeded on Thursday, said a DWD spokeswoman.
It was warmest on Wednesday with 33.9 degrees Celsius near Speyer, in the village of Waghäusel-Kirrlach. With lots of sunshine, the maximum temperatures across Germany were between 26 and 33 degrees.
On the other hand, it was cooler at 21 to 25 degrees Celsius on the coasts. "The reason for this is the water temperature of 16 to 19 degrees in the North and Baltic Seas," said the DWD. As a result, the air was unable to heat up and instead arrived as a “cool breeze”.
