Spain closes ranks and conspires. Day of reflection, of speaking and understanding what is happening in a team that has not been able to win in its first two matches at the European Championship . The situation is delicate, the match against Slovakia, which will be played next Wednesday at the La Cartuja Olympic stadium , has become a final, since anything other than winning the victory would greatly complicate the options of Luis Enrique’s team to be in the next round. For this reason, the National Team wants to take advantage of these hours before the momentous crash to reset itself, expel negative thoughts, end anxiety and convince itself that everything will be fine.
The Spanish expedition headed for Madrid at the conclusion of the match against Poland. The national team rested in the Ciudad del Fútbol of Las Rozas, their headquarters throughout the competition. There they had the morning off, since it was decided that there would be no attention to the media , and in the afternoon they had a gentle recovery session. But without a doubt, the most important thing was to regain the lost confidence. And the thing is, the puncture against the Poles did damage within the national team.
If, after drawing their debut against Sweden, the dressing room was convinced that they had played well and that only bad luck had deprived them of winning, against Poland the feelings were not the same. The team ended up touched. Something blocked. Unable to understand what had been missing to achieve victory. For this reason, on the day after, mental recovery was almost more important than physical. Although without forgetting the football section
Luis Enrique gives great importance to the mental aspect. Joaquín Valdés, psychologist of the National Team, always accompanies him and from Sunday to Wednesday he will have the task of making the team see that against Slovakia they must have confidence and be sure of themselves. The coach will also try to convey to his players the positivity that always characterizes him. And, the first final of the Eurocup for Spain is played on the last day of the group stage.
Trust in Luis Enrique
Within the Federation they continue to trust Luis Enrique . His numbers in this second stage are not the best, since out of 14 games only five have been won, but he has also achieved great results such as the 6-0 victory over Germany precisely in La Cartuja and in a situation very similar to the current one. . That night the National Team needed to add victory to qualify for the final phase of the League of Nations and not only did they get it, they also achieved a result for history.
The Federation, headed by its president, Luis Rubiales, trusts the Asturian . Nobody for Las Rozas doubts that Spain will be able to carry out the game against Slovakia and then the direct crosses will begin. Heads or tails duels. They do not want to think about a possible elimination, since the objective of all is to continue ahead in this European Championship. If this is not possible, it will be time to make decisions.
If the debacle is confirmed and Spain is not in the round of 16, it is clear that Rubiales and Luis Enrique will have to sit down to talk, since the failure would be enormous. In fact, there are several who think that if this happens it will be the coach himself who decides to step aside by putting his position at the service of the Federation. However, as we said before, you have to think positively.
