The corona incidence in Germany continues to fall, the situation is easing. Which rules in hardware stores will now apply from July 1st.
Frankfurt – The temperatures in Germany are climbing, the sun is showing its most beautiful smile. Now at the latest it is time to get the necessary garden chairs, the grill or maybe a few nice plants in the hardware store. But that has not been so easy since the beginning of the Corona * crisis. Obi, Hornbach, Toom, all hardware stores – like many other shops – suffered badly from the pandemic.
The federal emergency brake, which lays down clear rules for hardware stores, has been in force since April 23. These apply in regions with a 7-day incidence of over 100 – similar to the corona rules for supermarkets. The good news: DIY stores are open. But which rules apply from July 1st?

Corona rules in the hardware store: What applies now
The corona rules in hardware stores with an incidence of 100 or more:
- For shop areas of less than 800 square meters (affects most supermarkets), each customer must have an area of 20 square meters available
- From an area of 800 square meters (this mainly includes hardware stores), there must be 40 square meters per customer.
The corona rules in hardware stores with an incidence of 150 or more:
- If the incidence in a region rises to over 150, normal shopping in the hardware store is no longer necessary
- Then the goods can only be pre-ordered and picked up on site (Click & Collect)
The corona rules in hardware stores with an incidence of 200 or more:
- The hardware store has to close completely, and Click & Collect is no longer possible either
Incidence is falling – what does this mean for shopping in the hardware store?
While at the beginning of June some regions had an incidence of over 100, the situation has now eased significantly. The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) reported an incidence in Germany of 5.1 * for Thursday (July 1st). The federal emergency brake does not currently apply to hardware stores. Thus, the long queues that were in between due to the Corona restrictions are no longer to be expected for the time being.
As before, however, the mask requirement (FFP2 or medical mask) and keeping your distance also apply in hardware stores. These rules should stay with us for quite a while. Nevertheless: The shopping for the barbecue at Obi, Hornbach and Co. can come. (nc) * fr.de is an offer from IPPEN.MEDIA.
