The name says it all. Your kids can become the little boss at this city-themed covered recreation center that’s geared toward young children. And if you’re desperate for indoor children’s activities in Taipei, like we were during Typhoon Parma, then Baby Boss is ideal for children ages three to eight. Set on an entire floor of a shopping mall, Baby Boss has fifty or so “occupations” that children can choose to participate in and participate in.
Baby Boss staff speak some English, but activities are conducted in Mandarin. If your children do not speak Mandarin, they will continue to enjoy the activities and will be able to ask questions in English.
Orientation and tickets
You can choose multiple ticket options at the entrance. We weren’t sure what we were getting into so we chose an individual activity ticket to see if our son (4 years old at the time) would enjoy it or not. A single ticket allows a parent to enter with the child. The purchase of the following tickets allows the other parent to enter.
The single ticket costs 250NTD (New Taiwan Dollars). A full day runs 900NTD for children and 500NTD per adult. Unless you know you’re going to be spending the whole day, buying tickets for a single activity is definitely the way to go.
Baby Boss Occupations
There are 49 stops on the Baby Boss occupancy map. You will get a map and calendar when you buy your ticket. Basically, the activities last between thirty and forty minutes and start at different times. Each activity is managed by a type of adult teacher who guides the activity.
Activity stations include the following: space mission control, power station, archaeological dig, gold mine, dairy farm, TV station, pastry shop, department store, fire department, police station, construction site, factory of soft drinks, dentist, hospital, port, court, news agency, pizzeria, gas station, hotel and airline.
How Baby Boss works
Based on what was available on the schedule the afternoon we were there, my son decided to try his luck as a paramedic, firefighter, pizza man, and airline pilot. Parents guide children from one activity to another, but then stand outside (or to the side) to look and take photos.
Each activity has a uniform involved so the kids can dress up the part. There is a bit of learning before they “do” something where the teacher explains what is happening. Then the occupation will be represented. It is role play at its finest. The firefighters were loaded into a small electric fire truck; Flight personnel boarded a real plane.
Featured Activity
My son liked being a pilot better. The group of children chose whether they were to be pilots or flight attendants. Each obtained the required uniform. After some instructions, the pilots, wearing hats and briefcases, boarded the plane followed by the flight attendants with wheeled bags. The parents boarded the last place and sat in the back, in real airplane seats.
The flight attendants went through security protocol and we could hear my son in the front of the plane yelling “ready for take off!” All the children seemed to really enjoy the activity and learn something too.
