Elon Musk’s satellite internet company will arrive in Mexico on October 28, 2021, this after the company obtained authorization from the Federal Telecommunications Institute (IFT) to trade its service in the national territory.
In Mexico, the company will have the official permission of Starlink Satellite Systems México, S. de RL de CV and will be a national subsidiary of Starlink United States. In addition, its operation will be valid for 10 years.
How will the Starlink satellite system work?
According to the company, the country will have a speed of 1GBps and will focus on providing quality service in areas where there is little cable and internet infrastructure, such as rural areas or far from large cities.
At the moment, the service already has a beta test available that allows speeds of 50 MB up to 150 MB and promises a latency of 20 to 40 milliseconds, if anyone is interested in testing the service they can already make a registration in the, where they will start to process user requests.
How much will Starlink cost?
Regarding the prices that the Starlink service will have in Mexico, the company indicates that the monthly cost will be 99 dollars, almost 2,000 pesos per month, and in case users want to be part of the Starlink Mexico community they will have to acquire one reception terminal that will cost 500 dollars.
Although it is already possible to use the beta, the same brand suggests that you have patience with the service.
“As we launch more satellites, install more ground stations and improve our network software, data speed, latency and uptime will dramatically improve,” Starlink states on its website.
How to register in Starlink México?
The installation of the service is very simple and what is needed is to acquire the kit of the brand to start, because in this package will come the WiFi router, a power supply, connection cables and mounting tripod.
