Sedona Rouge Hotel & Spa is a great option for people looking for sophisticated decor, spectacular views, and high-quality spa treatments at an affordable price. It’s across the street from a busy commercial strip in West Sedona, but the rear views are of Sedona’s spectacular red rock cliffs.
Located two hours north of Phoenix and Scottsdale, Sedona is a unique destination known for its vortexes, spiraling centers of subtle energy emanating from the earth that make it a spiritually powerful place. Native Americans considered this landscape so sacred that it was a place of spiritual retreat and vision, not a place to live. Today it is a magnet for spiritual seekers – signs of psychics, crystals, and vortex maps are everywhere. But even if you are skeptical, it is still one of the most charming and beautiful landscapes in the country.
Spa lovers will find some wonderful therapists and spa treatments at Sedona Rouge Hotel & Spa, a surprisingly urban property that blends modern and Mediterranean influences. Half of the 77 rooms and suites have spectacular views of Thunder Mountain just behind the property. The bedrooms have comfortable beds and large flat screen TVs and gas fireplaces. You may be able to hear some traffic noise because the doors open to the outside rather than into a hallway. And some rooms have a shower, while you may crave a bathtub.
Intuitive Treatments in Sedona Rouge
Located just behind the hotel in an earth-toned building, The Spa at Sedona Rouge features 8 treatment rooms and a spacious, modern setting. As might be expected in Sedona, it offers intuitive treatments such as Touching Essence, which “combines practical healing with breath work, deep relaxation, guided imagery, psychic attunement, dialogue, and cleansing of familiar patterns such as hypnotherapy, psychic readings, or past life regression. Also available is the Seven Rising Start Healing System, available to you or a pet.
The Spa at Sedona Rouge also offers Ayurvedic services, including a lifestyle consultation, shirodhara, abhyanga (a warm oil massage), herbal body scrub, and a heart chakra healing. But you can also get great massages, facials, and body treatments from highly skilled therapists, many of whom used to work at Mii Amo at Enchantment, a famous destination spa down the road.
Get there early to warm up your muscles in the steam room and outdoor hot tub. And if you’re enjoying yourself naked and looking at some second-floor balconies and windows with an unobstructed view, don’t worry – these are treatment rooms, not guest rooms. No one will see you. Enjoy a sip of lemon-infused water in the Tranquility Lounge and spectacular views of the Red Cliffs, while filling out your inquiry form.
Master massage therapists
One of the treatment rooms has beautiful views of Thunder Mountain through a glass window. My therapist, Barbara Lepper, left the blinds after making sure no one could see. Barbara has been doing body work for over 20 years, and she gave me one of the best massages of my life. He started by asking me what was happening to my body (those chronically sore shoulders!) And he really personalized the treatment, using experience honed over many years.
He paid special attention to areas that often become short, such as the arms. Since many people spend so much time in front of the computer, our arms and hands really deserve more massage. And Barbara noted that working on the arms helps release tension in the shoulders. I also liked the fact that she not only worked on one part and then moved on to the next, but integrated her work with a big sweep of my entire side, from foot to hand.
There’s a small gym, an outdoor pool, and a daily yoga class at 8 a.m., but be sure to grab a map from the concierge and head out on a field trip. You are not right in the heart of the village, but it is a short drive. Grab a map from the concierge and go on a hike or take a Pink Jeep Tour. There are also many shops. Don’t miss Tlaquepaque (pronounced Tla-keh-pah-keh), the Arts and Crafts Village of Sedona, Arizona. For a psychic reading that doesn’t scare you, try Kavitaa, a very friendly Englishwoman and spiritual seeker who landed in Sedona.
