India is one of the countries that is having the worst time with the coronavirus pandemic. Until a few weeks ago, the country’s situation was critical with hundreds of deaths and thousands of infections daily. The health facilities continue to collapse and the Indian variant, the Delta variant, is already one of the most active in Europe.
With the start of vaccination in the country last January, it does not seem that the situation will be controlled, since the vaccination process is being slow and is not very controlled. So much so that India has been notified of unauthorized vaccination centers since January where people have been vaccinated without the relevant authorization or maintaining minimum sanitary measures to carry out this work.
In this sense, the deputy commissioner of the Bombay police, Vishal Thakur, informed local media that it had been verified that between the months of May and June at least 2,500 people received a saline solution similar to water as a coronavirus vaccine instead. to receive the vaccine compound Covishield, the counterpart of AstraZeneca in India.
It’s not the first time
The curious thing about this situation, as recognized by the country’s authorities, is that it is not the first time that people’s lives have been gambled and the pandemic has been used as an excuse to make a profit.
In recent months, several complaints related to the scam have been reported to citizens who receive fake vaccines. Thakur himself explained to the media that several unauthorized vaccination points have been found in other regions of the country over the last few months, “vaccination camps organized by unauthorized personnel ,” Thakur says in a letter.
At the moment there are 14 people arrested for this fraud with coronavirus vaccines, all related to the health world in India. According to the investigations, in many vaccination centers that have been found as unauthorized, patients did not receive the vaccine and what they injected was an antibiotic that has nothing to do with the treatment of COVID-19.
There are no vaccines for everyone
Unlike what happens in Europe for example, where the vaccination rate is good, in India from the outset , vaccination was only authorized for people over 45 years of age , which would be covered by the State. For the rest of the population there were no vaccines and they had to pay for them, so these unauthorized vaccination centers arose.
At present, the vaccine has been extended to all citizens of the country.
