Offenbach – Germany is dealing with a real summer of storm this year. Thunderstorms *, sometimes even real storms *, sweep across the country again and again. Heavy rain has already caused flooding in many regions. A relaxation in the weather * is not yet in sight. On the contrary: it could really come to a head again.
Summer seems to be falling into the water right now. In June there was a short but intense heat wave, but the weather has been quite uncomfortable since then. The south of Germany in particular was hit hard by storms. It doesn’t look like outdoor pool weather for the next few days either. But this time the focus is not on the south, but above all on the west.
Weather: Extreme amounts of rain in Germany – flooding threatens
“Now it’s going to be really big,” warns graduate meteorologist Dominik Jung from wetter.net, referring to the next storms that are coming to Germany. The experts are particularly concerned about the amount of rain that is expected in some regions.
“In the direction of the Eifel in particular, there is a lot going on when it comes to precipitation. Up to 140 millimeters are possible there within two to three days. This will lead to floods in brooks and rivers, from North Rhine-Westphalia, Hesse, Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland to Baden-Württemberg, ”says Jung. The Rhine level could also rise dramatically again.

Weather in Germany: Storm series continues – west hit by heavy rain
It becomes problematic because the levels of many rivers and streams are already very high. If there is again heavy rainfall, there is a risk of major floods * in Germany. It is not yet entirely certain which regions will be affected by the heavy rainfall in the coming days. The focus is on the west, southwest and also in Switzerland, according to the meteorologist. It could become critical in the entire catchment area of the Rhine.
The German Weather Service (DWD) *, based in Offenbach, also predicts local thunderstorms with sometimes heavy rain for the coming days. The continuous rain should start on Monday (July 12th, 2021).
Weather confusion in Germany: Heat in the east – Up to 33 degrees possible
But it doesn’t get wet everywhere. Again, Germany is sitting between the chairs. Because on the one hand hot air comes from Eastern Europe and it also creates heat in the east of the country. Up to 33 degrees are possible there on Wednesday (July 14th, 2021). On the other hand, the cool air masses from the west and north-west are moving in. “Both meet precisely over Germany and have been for weeks.
