The old game is over: Final Fantasy XI console servers are shutting down forever

As they say nothing lasts forever and if they say it to the servers of ‘Final Fantasy XI’ for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 2. Users of both platforms have been enjoying this online world for a decade, but Square Enix has decided to put an end to their journey forever and close them completely.

The company already warned last month that as of April 1, the game could not be accessed again from its version for consoles , keeping only the servers for PC operational, so they invite all players to make the leap to the PC version if you want to continue your adventures.

According to what they have specified on their website, the transfer of the characters is completely free , something that is at least appreciated given the delicate situation. To carry out the process, you just have to follow a few very simple steps that can be completed in a matter of a few minutes, without any additional expense.

‘Final Fantasy XI’ was the first installment of the saga designed to be played online. Its release for compatible took place in 2003 , followed three years after its arrival for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 2. During all this time it has received up to five different expansions, a multitude of downloadable content and even today it still has thousands and thousands of players from all over the world.
