20 downloadable games to watch out for this Christmas (I)

At Christmas our most consumerist vein comes out. It is a fact. But sometimes we don’t really know what to buy: we just buy. And that can’t be either. You have to know how to take a good look at your pocket, not only to spend a small amount (especially in these turbulent times we live in), but also because it is of quality. That is why we have decided to create this list.

20 downloadable games to take into account at Christmas , which also lend themselves to buying from home and playing these dates, we have more free time and with the cold we feel like more. In this first batch we will recommend ten, and in the next another ten, adding, as you well know, 20. With how silly he seemed and how smart he seems to be now … Shall we start the review? Here I go!

Bastion (Steam, Xbox Live Arcade)

We start the recommendations with an essential this year: ‘Bastion’. The first work of Supergiant Games has managed to dazzle us with each and every one of its sections. It has a precious graphic style covered by a consistent gameplay graced by an adjusted and moldable difficulty, and whose culmination comes from part of the sound section, both for the dubbing (in English, with subtitles in our language), and for its award-winning soundtrack by Darren Korb.

Beyond Good & Evil HD (PSN, XBLA)

Being one of the most beloved titles of the last generation, it is logical that we also recommend its high definition version, simply called ‘Beyond Good & Evil HD’. Both the original and this edition continue to preserve that magic that captured so many gamers. Its game mechanics, very much in the line of the ‘Zelda’ in 3D, together with its universe and everything that surrounds it at the species level, encompasses a set that we should not miss and that will have us hooked for several afternoons.

Crimson Alliance (Xbox Live Arcade)

Anyone who has seen any images of the ‘Crimson Alliance’ will see it as a devilish hack’n slash without much charisma, but it would be a mistake not to dig behind its surface. This work by Certain Affinity has several peculiarities in its development, as we mentioned in its analysis, mainly highlighting its arcade and strategic touch. Because it will not consist of going crazy. Round the set its mode for up to four players, both locally and online.

Elevator Action Deluxe (Playstation Network)

With Square Enix’s ‘Elevator Action Deluxe’ I have a problem, but don’t get me wrong. The problem is that I have not yet managed to pass it on, and therefore encourage myself to analyze it, because of a damn phase in which I am stuck. Whoever complains about easy games in this generation will find in this version of the Taito classic the appeal to their prayers. Quite a challenge, especially if we want to unlock all its secrets. Nothing, but nothing easy, I assure you.

Escape Goat (PC, Xbox Live Indie Games)

That within this selection of titles among a single game whose origin comes from the Xbox Live Indie Games service says a lot about ‘Escape Goat’. From it and its developer (MagicalTimeBean). It will not have the best graphics in the world (nor does it need to), but it will have fireproof gameplay, successfully mixing platforms and puzzles . It also has, to curl the curl, with a powerful level editor. If you put aside the prejudices it will catch you. Word of a goat.

Guardian Heroes (Xbox Live Arcade)

I’ve always wanted a Saturn, and luckily almost a year ago I was able to fulfill that whim. But until then I had to yearn for titles like ‘Guardian Heroes’. My surprise was that SEGA and Treasure announced it this year for Xbox Live Arcade, and a few months ago it was put on sale on the aforementioned Xbox 360 service. A beat’em up that will not leave anyone indifferent. Treasure in its purest form.

Hard Corps: Uprising (PSN, XBLA)

Speaking of difficult titles of this generation, ‘Hard Corps: Uprising’ is another good example of this. Which is not surprising considering that it is the successor to Konami’s mythical ‘Contra’ saga. Developed by the masters of Arc System Works, it exudes graphic preciousness in spurts and boasts highly polished and demanding gameplay. The less skilled will also have their corner here, do not panic yet, thanks to the Rising mode, where we can improve our characters. The Arcade is reserved for teachers only. Oh, and we can play with a partner.

Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet (Xbox Live Arcade)

‘Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet’ is the kind of game that first enters through sight and sound, and then continues to grow as we enter its world, a fantastic world designed by Michel Gagné. For me, along with the previously recommended ‘Bastion’, the best of Xbox Live Summer of Arcade 2011, and by extension the best of Xbox Live Arcade in general. His interpretation of the development a la ‘Metroid’ and his variety of situations are a sure value for this Christmas.

ilomilo (Windows Phone 7, Xbox Live Arcade)

Some will probably be surprised to see the ‘ilomilo’ on this list, but we must not forget that it officially went on sale on January 5, 2011 (Windows Phone, on the other hand, arrived earlier, yes). How quickly time has passed, right? But its freshness is still intact, and its puzzles are still a challenge, especially at the end, and that because of its childish appearance can be deceiving …

Joe Danger: Special Edition (Xbox Live Arcade)

From being one of the Playstation Network successes of 2010, it has gone on to do the same on the Xbox 360 digital service with a special edition. Hello Games has done it again. ‘Joe Danger: Special Edition’ improves on what was seen in the original, and for that reason it seems like an indispensable piece if we are going for speed, stunts and pure joke. And the challenges, of course. That here there will be many and of multiple colors. Also do not leave out the original ‘Joe Danger’ if you only have PS3.
