20 downloadable games to watch out for this Christmas (and II)

After the first part, the second touches on the, in our opinion, 20 downloadable games to consider at Christmas . Surely you miss a noteworthy presence, but you already know what usually happens with lists: it does not rain to everyone’s liking. Another story would be if they were called “stupid”, because we could recommend the same candy 20 times that we would all like. I’m wrong?

Jokes aside, we always remember that you can write your preferences in the comments section. There the list can be extended to as many as we want, that in the end every year that passes there are more games in downloadable format and surely more of an interesting one we have left aside. Having said which, here are the rest of the games that we recommend:

MotoHeroz (WiiWare)

2011 has not been characterized as a very prolific year for WiiWare, and even above that we have witnessed resounding cancellations for this Nintendo service for Wii. But despite everything, we have seen some remarkable title, such as RedLynx’s ‘MotoHeroz’. Yes, the same ones from ‘Trials HD’. The mechanics are similar to this one, but from a more casual approach and no less complex for that. If you are undecided, you will be happy to know that a demo has been released for it recently.

Ms. Splosion Man (Xbox Live Arcade)

We loved the original ‘Splosion Man’, and unsurprisingly, we also loved its sequel, the ‘Ms. Splosion Man ‘. The geniuses Twisted Pixel Games have managed to find the winning formula, and therefore it is not surprising that Microsoft has taken over their services. One of the good platforms: fun, difficult and to enjoy with company. And by far, much sense of humor. May it never be missing.

Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath HD (Playstation Network)

Being my favorite of the first Xbox, I would hope that it would also recommend its reissue in high definition for the Playstation Network under the name ‘Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath HD’. Although it is more than a simple reissue since it is much more careful than those that are seen more and more often. It is a longer than average title, fun, and that successfully mixes parts of a first-person shooter with a third-party platform. Among its many striking features, the fact that to collect ammunition we will have to hunt it stands out. And they are living beings!

Outland (PSN, XBLA)

One of the surprises of this year came from the hand of Ubisoft and the Housemarque studio with ‘Outland’, a beautifully made platform game that caught our attention from the beginning due to its duality with light and dark, very much in the line from the Treasure classic ‘Ikaruga’. But then he was able to successfully fulfill the playable section, offering us interesting challenges, and a grateful co-op mode.

PixelJunk Shooter 2 (Playstation Network)

‘PixelJunk Shooter 2’, from the small Japanese studio Q Games, has been one of my weaknesses in 2011, as happened with the first ‘PixelJunk Shooter’. One of those atypical ships games that we would have to have if we are PS3 users. Otherwise we would be missing one of the best in the Playstation Network catalog: it improved the formula of the first one, added a competitive online mode and a special extra for the most skilled that would eventually become …

PixelJunk Sidescroller (Playstation Network)

‘PixelJunk Sidescroller’. Yes, from the previous one we come to this one, a tribute from Q Games to classics such as ‘Gradius’ and ‘R-Type’. If the aforementioned is one of the most recommended of the PS3 digital service, this one was not going to be less. In fact, what PixelJunk isn’t? It will especially appeal to fans of lifelong side scrolling shoot’em ups. Insert Coin ?

Radiant Silvergun (Xbox Live Arcade)

We do not leave the genre of ships to recommend one of the considered crème de la crème , the outstanding ‘Radiant Silvergun’. Until not long ago it was exclusive to recreational vehicles and Saturn, and that is why it was so highly valued by eBay and the like. Its price was exorbitant. Luckily thanks to Xbox Live Arcade things have changed. Without him we would not have received, years later, the ‘Ikaruga’, also from Treasure. Not in vain is its forerunner. Fine cinnamon not suitable for all audiences.

Rochard (PSN, Steam)

With ‘Rochard’ I once had a mistake that I was able to correct not long ago when it came time to analyze it. I saw it as just another title, but luckily its demo showed me otherwise and its subsequent purchase was a reflex action. It will not be able to compete with the biggest ones, but it has fun from start to finish, which is what matters, thanks to its successful development and the different uses that we will make with gravity.

Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike Online Edition (PSN, XBLA)

If you ask about the best 2D fighting games in history on more than one occasion you will see the name ‘Street Fighter III’ . That’s right. For this reason, its most current version and in downloadable format for PSN and XBLA , ‘Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike Online Edition’, had to be, yes or yes, on this list. Although some may think otherwise at first, it is not another HD reissue to use since it has many extras and a very special feature: the use of GGPO technology to reduce the lag of online battles. There will be no parry to resist, unless we are deniers.

Trine 2 (PSN, Steam, XBLA)

There may be a sin of continuity, but that does not mean that ‘Trine 2’ is as recommended as the first chapter was in its day. Frostbyte has once again done a great job providing us with what we could once again classify as a modernized version of the classic ‘The Lost Vikings’. On this occasion, in addition, it debuts for the first time on Xbox 360, accompanying PSN and Steam.
