At least 362 injured, at least 63 dead – that is the preliminary balance of the storm disaster in the Ahrweiler district. However, the police said that both numbers could increase.
Koblenz / Ahrweiler – At least 362 people were injured in the storm in the Ahrweiler district. The police in Koblenz announced on Friday that this number could increase even further.
This also applies to the dead, which the Rhineland-Palatinate Ministry of the Interior had last given 63.
As a result of the storm, federal road 257 from Hönningen to Ahrbrück as well as several country and district roads are still closed. The police are calling on the population not to go to the flood-affected areas, but to bypass them extensively so that there is space for the rescue workers.
Police forces are present and accessible to people day and night in all villages.
“The great amount of solidarity and the many offers of help from the population impressed us very much and show the nationwide concern,” says the message. The police appealed to the people in the disaster area: “Take care of yourself and trust the work of the rescue workers.” Dpa
