While the catastrophic situation in North Rhine-Westphalia and Rhineland-Palatinate still exists, waters in Bavaria are now threatening to overflow their banks.
Berchtesgaden – After the flood disaster in North Rhine-Westphalia and Rhineland-Palatinate, the situation is now worsening in Bavaria as well. The disaster has now been declared in Upper Bavaria. As the Passauische Neue Presse summarizes, the Berchtesgadener Ache threatens to overflow its banks. In a report from the district office, residents are advised not to go to shore areas.
In addition, cellars should be avoided. A spokesman for the police in Upper Bavaria told the newspaper: “It’s all over the top”. Basements would fill up and streets would flood. The operations are currently concentrated on Berchtesgaden and Bischofswiesen in Upper Bavaria.
Storm: Berchtesgaden and Bischofswiesen report alarming water levels
In the municipalities of Berchtesgaden and Bischofswiesen in southeast Bavaria, the water levels of the river Ache rose sharply after more water from the mountains had worked its way into the valleys. Individual houses have already been cleared, the reason for this being slipping slopes, as reported by the German Press Agency (dpa). It also says that the district will be coordinating the on-site operation with immediate effect.
A police spokesman in Rosenheim spoke of “constant emergency calls” that were received. All fire brigades in the Berchtesgadener Land district are required. “The situation is confusing,” said the spokesman. “It’s raining heavily.” Federal roads have been flooded or blocked because of mudslides.
