Philips Designhas partnered with the San Sebastian restaurant of Juan Mari y ElenaArzakto advance the future“multisensory gastronomy”.
According to the last project of the projectPhilips Design Probes, in the future food should not only dazzle the palates, but alsoevoke emotions and stimulate the senses. To achieve this, its engineers have developed aporcelain tableware that lights up. The Lunar Eclipse (bowl), Fama (long plate) and Tapa de Luz (serving plate) porcelain series are designed to react when food is placed on the plate or when liquid is poured into the bowl.
Clive van Heerden, director of innovation with LEDs at Philips Design, explains that “sensory design takes into account all the senses, as well as the subliminal and indirect aspects of our relationship with objects and environments. Arzak’s knowledge of Basque cuisine and Spanish and the deep understanding of the clients’ needs make him the perfect partner for this project. ”Not in vain, Juan Mari Arzak and Elena Arzak, father and daughter, are pioneers inmolecular gastronomy, a cooking method that improves and creates new experiences in theperceptioncerebral and sensory food.
For the new Philips tableware, Arzak has created three plates, which he has named “Pumice Stone, the only stone that floats” (bowl), “Foie Totem and Taboo” (long plate), and “In the footsteps of the roe deer “(serving dish).
Living room garden
It is not the only proposal developed by the creatives of Philips Design for the future of food. And theDiagnostic Kitchen, designed to scan each of the food we eat and know its composition to ensure that we cover ourdaily nutritional needs.
