A Madrid movie theater offers to buy tickets with the pesetas that you still keep at home

Movie theaters are trying to reinvent themselves during the pandemic and are desperately looking for ways to attract viewers not only by implementing security measures. This is the case of Artistic Metropol, an independent cinema near the Madrid neighborhood of Embajadores, which has launched an initiative by which it offers its tickets from Monday to Thursday at a thousand pesetas, or its vouchers of five films at five thousand pesetas The head of the theater, Ángel Mora, explains that because of Covid-19 the public “has plummeted”, despite the fact that movie theaters are “one of the safest environments there are today”, and “There is no known case” linked to any movie theater, nor theater or music. It is an alternative for those who still have pesetas at home and prefer to exchange them for movie tickets instead of going to the Bank of Spain to exchange them for euros, an operation that can be carried out until June 30, 2021. 20 years after the euro was put into circulation in Spain, the Bank of Spain estimated, at the end of September last year, that Spaniards they still hoarded a total of 1,599 million euros and n pesetas coins and banknotes. Tickets will be sold in pesetas from this Friday until March 32, 2021, combining it with payment with euros and with a card. In addition, the cinema offers the option of buying with pesetas tickets without expiration date, to be able to go to see a movie whenever they want. Mora has recognized that it is a “nostalgic” idea in keeping with the “vintage” character of the room. “We have been around for 8 years but since we opened in 2012 we have opted for the old uses:the cinema club, the cinema forum, double programs, longer short program, independent, piano classics “, he has detailed, to point out that from its conception the Artistic Metropol had a” seventies-eighties “spirit. For this reason, given the proximity of the expiration of the peseta and taking into account the economic crisis derived from the health crisis, they have thought that it might be a good idea to accept the pesetas that as of June 30 will not be able to be used and allow “to change the pesetas for culture”.
