After child murders in Solingen, mother faces the maximum penalty

The bodies of five children were discovered in Solingen 14 months ago. Meanwhile, her mother faces the maximum sentence for fivefold murder. Today the verdict will be announced in the process.

Wuppertal – A good year after the death of five children in Solingen, the verdict against their mother is to be announced today. The 28-year-old is suspected of fivefold murder. Only her eldest son survived.

The public prosecutor has demanded the maximum sentence for the 28-year-old: life imprisonment and the determination of the particular gravity of her guilt, which almost excludes a release from prison after 15 years.

motive

The housewife had insidiously killed the five children by first anesthetizing them and then drowning or suffocating them one after the other, the prosecutor said in his plea on Tuesday. The dead children were discovered on September 3 last year in their beds, carefully covered.

According to the investigators, the trigger was a photo that showed her husband with a new wife at his side. That brought the facade of the whole family built by the defendant to collapse. On the day of the crime, according to the evidence, she had announced to her husband via chat that he would not see his children again.

The defendant alleged that a stranger broke into her home, tied her up, forced her to type the chat messages and killed her children. Defense attorney Thomas Seifert has requested an acquittal. There are still doubts about his client’s perpetration. He admitted, however, that the defendant was a high-grade narcissist, comparable in extent to Donald Trump.

If the court does not follow the request for acquittal, it proposed an alternative sentence of eight years for manslaughter with placement in a psychiatric hospital.

The psychiatric and psychological experts appointed by the court had attested that the defendant was fully responsible. They found no evidence of a serious mental disorder. The district court heard more than 40 witnesses on 20 days of the trial. dpa
