The new action RPG by the creators of Tales of had caught my attention for its anime aesthetic, but not enough to keep track of it closely, which is why when Bandai Namco offered us the opportunity to try a preview I was not very clear about what I was going to find.
After having played the first three hours, my feelings can be summarized that they have gone from skepticism to hoping that next month arrives and continuing the adventure where I left off, because of course it aims to become one of the biggest surprises. of 2021.
The war of some humans with special abilities against the Others
The truth is that the plot of Scarlet Nexus starts somewhat abruptly when the Earth is already in a dire situation and makes us wonder what exactly happened. Little by little he tells us that one day deranged mutants known as the Others emerged from the sky who began to devour human brains , putting the world’s population in check for their tremendous power.
Humanity had to find a way to face this threat and thanks to the evolution of science and technology, some inhabitants began to develop some supernatural powers capable of annihilating the Others. To this end, all of them are chosen to be part of an army of special forces that does not stop adding new recruits who try to put an end to this infernal war.
That’s where the two main characters come into play: Yuito Sumeragi and Kasane Randall. Both are characterized by having their own way of being and abilities, as well as a personal history that has led them to this moment. At the beginning of the adventure we will have to opt for one or the other and it will be what will determine how the argument will progress at certain times. Although the main events will be identical for both, there will be certain events that only one or the other will experience.
Therefore, this means that to know the entire story of the game we will have to spend it twice, but the best thing is that when taking control of one or the other it feels like two different titles , because the two characters have very little to do. see with each other, especially in the way they play. In Yuito’s case, he bases his attacks more on the use of a sword he carries, while Kasane specializes in the use of psychokinesis with throwing knives.
The plot picks up a fairly fast pace during the first few minutes and is generating more interest by leaps and bounds . Every time you overcome a new area or defeat a final boss, something happens that leaves you wanting to continue advancing to find out what adventures await our protagonists, with some script twists or really surprising moments that you will have to discover on your own.
Perhaps later the argument suffers ups and downs or is not as shocking as during the first hours, but at least the first three you can be sure that they will pass you in a sigh. To this must be added that more and more main characters and allies will appear along with other faces that make us suspect that they are not up to anything good. In addition, this is accompanied by the most spectacular animated sequences , although most of the intermediate scenes show them as in a kind of vignettes.
Even so, not everything will be fighting like crazy. At some point or other we will be able to visit a city in which they will give us secondary missions to carry out and there will also be a headquarters in which all the protagonists will meet , something that will be ideal to interact with them and win their affection, in a way that the bond that will be formed between them will increase even more when it comes to facing the Others.
And for those of you who don’t know English, don’t worry, because in our trial version the game was localized to the Anglo-Saxon language, but in the final version you will be able to choose between the voices in Japanese and English along with Spanish subtitles , something that always It is especially appreciated in titles like this with so much text to read.

At all times the only characters we will control will be Yuito or Kasane, but neither of them will be alone. Both will have the support of other soldiers who will fight side by side with them and are controlled by artificial intelligence. The main function of our battle companions is that each one of them also boasts of having their own special abilities . In the end, each one has its own most useful function that we can activate from time to time.
However, something that we have missed and that we hope will happen later is the fact that we have not had the option to choose our companions . At all times it has been the game itself that has been assigning them to us by finger because their powers were the ideal in depending on what circumstances, but it would not be a bad thing to have the opportunity to select our favorites, the ones we consider the best or simply by trying combinations to form the team that adapts to the way of playing of each one.
Be that as it may, the truth is that the two protagonists distribute good stuff on their own. Beyond the basic attacks of each one, both can control the objects of the stage to throw them at the enemies , as if they were Magneto from the X-Men, because this way we can collect drums, cars, beams and much more to wreak havoc on the creatures that stand up to us. In some cases, we can even finish them off with final movements with their own quick time events in order to make the combats more varied and not limited to the simple clicking of buttons.
In general the combat is somewhat frantic and it feels very agile and fun . At the same time, it is also very varied due to the different combos, interacting with the scenarios and the help provided by the companions. However, some enemies have also presented us with a good challenge that forced us not to trust ourselves at any time, especially in the confrontations against the final bosses, although there are many healing objects and save points on the stage that ultimately caused us to we never had the rope around our necks.
On the other hand, by leveling up we will have access to a skill tree that will unlock more attacks or increase the statistics of our characters and there will also be pieces of equipment that serve to strengthen them even more. Anyway, maybe it was because it was the first hours, but we have not noticed that any of this was essential or it will be too noticeable during the combats.
It is clear that we will solve all these doubts when we play the final version of Scarlet Nexus , but so far the feelings that it has left us are most positive. The plot hooks you with astonishing ease, the fighting is amazing, the setting and its artistic section with that cybernetic touch suits it very well and without a doubt the characters and the conversations they will have between them is also another great point in its favor. June 25 is already marked with a good circle as it is the day that this promising action RPG will be released for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X / S and PC.
