There are manufacturers with a soul, spirit and life of their own. Not just any automotive firm reaches that milestone. The merit of giving their vehicles an essence as unique as it is exclusive, something that makes them special in the eyes of connoisseurs and fans. Alfa Romeo is one of those brands. They are not the most popular cars on our roads, but whoever drives them knows that they own a different machine, despite the problems of the past. Despite the prejudices that accompany Italian creations. You pilot the history of the automobile . The creators of the Alfa Romeo Giulia GTA project have wanted to reflect the same in a documentary that makes any petrolhead’s hair stand on end. A video that puts the finishing touch to the celebration of the 110th anniversary of Alfa Romeo , a firm of passionate people.
The Giulia GTA is the most powerful sports saloon ever created by Alfa Romeo . An ode to sporty driving, both on the track and on the road, which can only be driven by 500 lucky people. Some of us might fall into the trap of comparing it to an Audi RS 4 or a BMW M3, but the Giulia GTA has set its own path , with scandalous performance and a style far from conventionalisms. The acronym GTA, which stands for Gran Turismo Allegerita (light grand touring), was seen for the first time in the Giulia Spring GTA from 1965, a true racing car of the time. The Italians have done something similar with this saloon, which is part of the Giulia Quadrifoglio that has received so much praise.
Tribute to history
On the occasion of its launch, and the 110th anniversary of Alfa Romeo, the creators of the Giulia GTA project wanted to show their passion through a video. A documentary that shows the emotion of planning this tribute from the first sketches. It shows all the evolution until finally you can see it going on your roads. A moment in which they talk about what it has meant to develop, design and produce an iconic sports car like the Giulia GTA . A car that exudes “typically Italian culture, performance, design and know-how” as they tell us from the neighboring country.
For them it is a more than necessary return to the origins of the brand, a tribute to historical models such as the 1965 Giulia GTA that gave the name to the current saloon. That first Gran Turismo Alleggerita was developed by Autodelta, starting from the Giulia Sprint GT as we discussed earlier,
Art on wheels
The Giulia GTA project, of which only 500 units will be marketed, was supported by Sauber Group AG. His team shared with the Italians the engineering and aerodynamic knowledge extracted from Formula 1 itself, key details that can be seen in the final car. The use of carbon fiber has been essential and thanks to this collaboration they have been able to use the Sauber Engineering wind tunnel, located in Hinwil (Switzerland) . From this association have emerged elements such as the front bumper, the side skirts, the diffuser, the GTA spoiler and the aerowing of the GTAm, an even more radical and circuit-ready two-seater variant.
This model is, by all accounts, a difficult car to explain in times of sanity and coherence. Its radical aesthetics has nothing to do with the refined and elegant lines shown by today’s cars, which seek to be friendly and simple. GTA and GTAm are built to race, thrill and vibrate. Its Alfa Romeo 2.9 V6 Bi-Turbo block, made entirely of aluminum, releases up to 540 hp of power which, thanks to Launch Control, accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in just 3.6 seconds .
