The popular e-commerce site would be working with Visa to develop a biometric payment system in which the bank card would be linked to the client’s palm print . In this way, the user would not have to remove their credit card from the wallet to pay, but would only have to place their hand in front of a scanner so that the payment is made instantly.
As the Wall Street Journal reported a few weeks ago, Amazon would be at the beginning of this project. But we have learned that the company has already established contacts with Visa for the creation of different terminals capable of scanning the palm of the client’s hand.
It is to be expected that, since its implementation, it would not be the client’s finger that would be used to unlock the device or connect to our bank account through a certain app, but the palm of our hand. And, according to experts, it would be the veins that will allow the person to be identified .
This system would be ideal in a fast food restaurant
The idea of this system would be to link the customer’s bank card with his palm, so that the store will finally carry out the scan. The question is, would it be necessary to do it for every store, restaurant or cafeteria?
At the moment, it seems that Amazon would plan to develop and launch this biometric technology in specific establishments, such as coffee shops or fast food restaurants.
But the company intends to go much further, with the idea of facilitating payment in the different establishments to which the customer goes on a daily or weekly basis . Thus, every time we order a coffee in our favorite establishment, or a sandwich, all you have to do is pass your hand over the reader and not have to take your credit card out of your pocket.
What about security?
Since the impression of the palm of the hand will be stored on a server, and in turn a connection will be established with the user’s bank account, it is normal that some doubts related to the security of the data arise, especially if we take into account that Until now, applications that used the palm of the hand to identify and / or pay had already been developed and launched, and some states or countries decided to ban them.
