America water park

The Water Park of America is one of the largest indoor water park hotel complexes in the country. Located around the corner from the huge Mall of America, its name plays on the name of its famous neighbor and the size of its neighbor.

The centerpiece of the 70,000 square feet. The indoor water park is its audacious 10-story tall waterslide complex, the tallest of any indoor water park (and one of the tallest of any water park, outdoor or indoor). Climate-controlled, enclosed translucent tubes send riders closer to 100 feet for a dizzying family raft ride. There are also body and tube slides that slide out and around the large tower.

The park also offers an unusually long lazy river that veers into a wave pool, and a FlowRider surf simulator that gives riders the opportunity to go surfing with a surfboard. Other attractions include the usual water park suspects: an activity pool with basketball and water floats; an interactive game center with a tipping bucket and two relaxing whirlpool spas (which are relatively small and can fill up quickly on busy days).

The forest theme is reminiscent of the Great Wolf Lodge chain of indoor water parks, but not quite as elaborate. The park is a bit lacking in lounge chairs. There is an underused loft area in one corner of the park that offers dining tables and could serve as a place for guests to park their belongings when there is no space on the main park floor.

The attached Radisson Hotel Bloomington complex is quite charming. The Grand Suites are especially spacious, with wide hallways, a large living room, a separate bedroom, an alcove with bunk beds, and a bathroom with a jetted tub, separate shower, and two facing vanities. As with all rooms, suites have mini-fridges, microwaves, sinks, and dining rooms. Thrifty guests can buy their own food and save on restaurant fees.

In the small quibble department, the hotel is close to the airport and a highway and it was a bit noisy during our stay. Inexplicably, the shower had no soap dish. And, like many hotels these days, the pillows were small and (in my opinion, anyway) somewhat uncomfortable.

The Water Park of America is one of Minnesota’s many indoor water parks. You can also find other indoor water parks throughout the Midwest and the United States.

Indoor water park features:

Surf simulator ride, family raft ride, tube and body water slides, interactive water games structure, children’s pool, pools for sports activities, spas with hydromassage and lazy river.
