American Express supports local businesses

The Vice President of Services to Establishments of American Express, Patricio Mendoza, stated that Shop Small is a global initiative of the financial institution that began more than 10 years ago in the United States, and has arrived in Mexico 3 years ago.

“It is a communication and marketing platform for Amex Cardholders, to connect them with small businesses, thus helping to boost sales and provide benefits to both,” said Mendoza.

During his participation in the podcast Cuéntame de Economía de Grupo Expansión, in the episode the director of American Express expanded the information about Shop Small. He said that the initiative emerged in the United States at the end of 2009, in the midst of the financial crisis; as a way to help small businesses that were suffering the ravages of the Great Recession.

The first time they launched the program in Mexico was three years ago and the 2021 edition is active from April 23 to June 20. It should be noted that, in this year, the number of businesses increased compared to previous years, in addition, the coverage is throughout the national territory.

In turn, Mendoza explained: “the program is designed to benefit small businesses and Cardholders. Small business customers, in addition to being participants in the reactivation of their favorite stores –in this context of a pandemic–, will receive a refund of 100 pesos for spending at least 100 pesos in participating stores. They will be able to validate the promotion up to five times ”.

Regarding bonuses, Cardholders will see them reflected in their Account Statement, while establishments benefit from offering their products and services to local buyers (American Express Cardholders). Any business that has an SME status can participate in Shop Small; so far there are 770 thousand establishments that are registered in the campaign.

For more information, SMEs that accept American Express cards or those that wish to join to participate in the campaign that supports local consumption, can enter or contact the institution’s official service channels.

“American Express has a long history of supporting small businesses, because it is these establishments that give character and life to our neighborhoods, at the same time that they boost the economy,” Mendoza said.
