Seiffen – Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) lets off steam at the end of her term of office – or rather smoke. Because the head of government is now available as a smoking figure from the Ore Mountains.
The figure shows her in a typical pose with a Merkel diamond and a blazer in pink, turquoise or purple. The figure from the Seiffener Volkskunst eG in Saxony has already found great sales.
“The success took us by surprise. We were sold out within a few days, ”said the company’s board member, Sven Reichel, to the German press agency on Friday. First of all, you had to reorder wood again – ash for the body and hornbeam for the head. “Now we are busy producing so that we can deliver again soon.”
So far, 400 Merkel incense figures have been produced. According to Reichel, they went to customers at home and abroad. “We don’t associate it with a political statement.” But Merkel is in a way a memorial: “We have it on the pedestal.” With the figure, at the end of Merkel’s chancellorship, a long-standing idea was taken out of the drawer.
According to the plans of the company with 40 employees, smoking woman Merkel is to be the start of a series of smoking celebrities. However, board member Reichel did not want to have a look at who will be turned and painted next in Seiffen.
Seiffen Folk Art has been in business since 1958 and, in addition to nutcrackers and incense figures, also produces pyramids and candle arches, among other things. dpa
