Are donkeys stupid?

Very sensitive to mistreatment , the donkey refuses to respond to any stimulus from its abusers, hence its reputation for being stubborn. Now, in a favorable environment, their response to problems is surprising. Not surprisingly, their wild Asian and Horn of Africa relatives, with a reputation for being untamed, survive thanks to their cunning in regions so arid that hardly any other mammal manages to do so. It is not surprising then that in ancient times the donkey was a very valuable animal and that it was required for its qualities, nobility and nutritional austerity. In Greece and Rome, the character of the donkey was used as an example of virtue for citizens and, in both the Arab and Christian world, religious tradition revered it as the mount of Muhammad and Jesus Christ. Finally, for centuries the mountain paths were traced in the footsteps of the donkey, as he always chooses the gentlest slope.
