The double standards regarding the display of sexually explicit material continue to work. A decade ago, when access to movies of this genre was more quantifiable, the New York Times calculated that videos and internet pornography generated a bigger business than soccer, basketball, and professional baseball combined.
Worldwide, Forbes magazine estimates profits at $ 60 billion annually: about 250 million people consume the products of this industry. According to data from the website PornHub, one of the largest free streaming cinema services for adults, Spain is thirteenth in the ranking of online porn consumption by country (the United States tops the list, followed by the United Kingdom and India). When one of our compatriots accesses this content, they spend an average of 8 minutes and 4 seconds in front of the screen.
However, the legislation – made by porn users – censors many practices in the name of hypocritical morality. A recent example: in the UK, the law since 2014 prohibits showing certain acts. And among them, there are some that do not seem to affect the safety of the participants – the reasonable limit -, such as spanking and slapping, coprophilia – urinating or defecating on another person -, fisting – inserting the fist in the anus or the vagina – or female ejaculation.
The paradox is that the regulations do not prevent viewing films in which these practices are carried out if they are produced outside of Great Britain. And also it does not distinguish when it comes to censoring between adults and minors.
