At what time of the day do we feel in the best mood?

At the end of last year, scientists from Cornell University (USA) used social networks to show that, usually, people wake up in a good mood but the smile wipes them off their faces as the day progresses . The research, which included monitoring 2.4 million people from 84 countries for two years through Twitter, confirmed for the first time in a large sample of the population that we have cyclical affective rhythms , and that to a large extent these depend on work , the hours of light and the amount of sleep.

Using specific software to monitor the language used on the microblogging platform, the authors of the research found that there are two time bands in which our mood is positive: first thing in the morning and around midnight. And they also confirmed something that we already suspected: we are in a better mood on Saturdays and Sundays than on weekdays.

Good humor affects many aspects of our life. For example, several studies show that we are more creative when our mood is positive . However, we also trust others less when we feel happy, as a recent Ohio State University study shows. For their part, researchers from the University of Missouri have come to the conclusion that the capacity of working memory, that which we use to remember a telephone number or the name of a person that has just been presented to us, is reduced when we we feel in an excellent mood.
