In freezing temperatures, a toddler survived in the Australian bush for three days. Apparently a small stream saved his life.
Sydney – For three days a toddler was missing in the bush in Australia – now the police have found the three-year-old alive after a major search operation.
The boy disappeared from his parents' house on Friday in the rural village of Putty, about 110 kilometers northwest of Sydney, said police in the New South Wales region. The security forces searched for him with a dog squadron, divers, mounted police and hundreds of volunteers, among other things.
On Monday morning (local time), the child was finally discovered by a helicopter while drinking water by a stream. "The fact that he was near water enabled him to survive," said a spokesman for the authorities.
The autistic boy, who cannot speak, survived three nights in freezing temperatures of only about three degrees, it said. He was reunited with his family and first given a medical examination. "He has a diaper rash, was bitten by ants, and fell, but he's alive," his father told local media. dpa
