The Seat León is not only the benchmark of the compact segment in sales numbers, it also receives recognition from specialized journalists in the sector. The latest award won by the successful model is the ‘Best Buy Car in Europe 2021’, awarded in the 20th edition of the Autobest awards . As stated by Wayne Griffiths, CEO of Seat and Cupra : “a success that is based on an investment of 1,100 million euros that has allowed it to take it to a new level”. After this commitment to the Lion, designed and manufactured in Spain, there can be no better reward than collecting a prize in your own home: Barcelona. The twentieth edition of the Autobest Awards gala took place in the Catalan capital, bringing together more than 150 guests from the 31 countries that are part of the jury at La Llotja de Mar.
As with the ‘Car of the Year’ award, this award is decided by 31 automotive journalists . All of them belong to the most recognized traditional and digital media of the old continent, so they choose based on extensive experience. Seat, a firm that has more than 70 years of history, has already accumulated two ‘Best Buy Car in Europe’ awards, after the victory of the Seat Ateca in 2017. Another example of the good path that the firm has taken and that makes it in the most relevant within the Volkswagen group.
The Lion is the best
The Seat León is the brand’s best-known model, with 2.3 million units sold since it was launched in 2014. For the last batch they have developed a car that is safer, more technological and more efficient than ever. A project that has required an investment of 1.1 billion euros in connectivity, sustainability and dynamism. “Winning the ‘Best Buy Car in Europe 2021’ award from Autobest is the best possible recognition for the team that participated in the launch of the best Lion of all time,” acknowledges Wayne Griffiths.
That bet allows them to speak of the most complete compact on the market, not only within its range, but also in its segment. Added to the high technological level is the history of its essence, which combines perfectly with a future full of challenges. They have a very varied power supply for them, with up to five types of propellants: gasoline (TSI), diesel (TDI), compressed natural gas (TGI), ‘Mild Hybrid’ (eTSI) and plug-in hybrid (e-HYBRID ) .
The Autobest Award
