Cupra’s aspirations were clear from the moment of its presentation as an independent firm from Seat. From that strategic decision, taken by Luca de Meo when he was still the president of Seat , nearly two years have passed. Enough time to complete an interesting range made up of the Cupra Formentor, Cupra León and León Sportstourer and the Cupra Ateca. Soon the Cupra el-Born will arrive, the first 100% electric model of the firm of which we have already seen images next to Ansu Fati .
The young Barça star is just one of the lucky ones to get to know the universe of this performance, sophisticated and connected brand up close. Since last January 20, the squad can move without complexes behind the wheel of their favorite Cupra model. The key handover ceremony was held at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper and was attended by 19 players from the bench , including captains Gerard Piqué and Sergio Busquets.
The footballers were able to experiment with the signature and the customization options it offers in a space specially prepared for the occasion. This activity, inspired by events in the fashion industry, attracted other stars such as newcomers Sergiño Dest and Miralem Pjanic. CUPRA global ambassador Marc ter Stegen did not want to miss the event and took Dutch midfielder Frenkie de Jong with him. The involvement and curiosity of the players motivated the Cupra Masters specialists who, for the first time, were putting the digital experience of the Cupra Garage to the test. A new exhibition model that will bring the brand closer to the world thanks to new technologies.
Customized to taste
In the space created by the brand, Barça players were able to customize their Cupra units to their liking through the interactive features of the Cupra Garage . The Cupra Masters named above were in charge of guiding them through the digital tools, present in the more than 500 physical points of sale that exist in the world.
As elite athletes that they are, the Barça bench quickly became interested in the most striking and sporty models in the exhibition. They were the Cupra e-Racer and the Cupra León Competition. The first of these is the first 100% electric racing car, which will be in charge of showing the potential of the firm in the ETCR against rivals such as the 670 hp Alfa Romeo Giulia or the Golf R TCR , among others.
Which car did each of you keep?
Marc ter Stegen, ambassador of the firm, decided to renew the Cupra Formentor that he had already enjoyed in recent months but, this time, it would be the 245 hp plug-in hybrid . He justified this choice as follows: “it will allow me to continue enjoying sporty driving while minimizing the impact of the vehicle on the environment .” The player does not hide his love for the brand and commented that: “I am looking forward to seeing my teammates driving their new CUPRA models in Barcelona.”
The first model developed entirely by the Seat brand is the official image of the collaboration between Cupra and FC Barcelona but it has also been among the finalists for the Car of the Year in Europe 2021. That is why the Formentor was one of the most successful among the squad, chosen by Sergio Busquets, Frenkie de Jong , Sergiño Dest or Miralem Pjanic.
Clement Lenglet and Junior Firpo chose the new Cupra Ateca, the first car launched under the firm and which has recently been renewed. Nor has the Cupra León been left behind, available with plug-in hybrid propulsion for both the five-door body and the Sportstourer station wagon. Thanks to this system, Barça players will be able to access the field without polluting in 100% electric mode (52 kilometers of autonomy).
