Best new hotel for business travelers

There’s a new player on the Denver hotel scene, and it’s catching the attention of many travelers, especially business travelers.

The Hyatt Regency Denver Aurora-Conference Center in Aurora just opened in March.

This is one of the few Hyatts in Denver, including the charming downtown Hyatt Place and the four-star Grand Hyatt.

The new Regency offers luxurious accommodations in a great location just minutes from the freeway and within walking distance of the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. It’s not in the heart of downtown, but close to campus, where some of the brightest brains in town gather, and in the easternmost city of Aurora.

This area is undergoing a major redevelopment as it prepares to become another Colorado hotspot for commuters.

The new Hyatt Regency offers a broader range of services than even some of the best luxury resorts in the state, so prepare to be amazed. It is especially inclined to accommodate business travelers.

If you are on a particularly busy trip, you will not need to leave the hotel. Onsite, you’ll find extensive meeting facilities, a heated rooftop pool, a full-service restaurant, a bar with great cocktails, a barista stand serving Starbucks coffee, a self-service laundry room (or you can ask the hotel take care of your laundry) and a state-of-the-art gym. For something else, you can also get access to the Anschutz Wellness Center across the street.

The Hyatt lobby is even stocked with “spa water,” infused with fruits or vegetables.

The hotel’s restaurant is Borealis, run by an award-winning chef and specializing in local dishes. Take your food out to the large outdoor patio in summer, or just enjoy the stunning mountain views from your room.

Well-designed suites even feature turndown service and a mini fridge, and wine cooler, something you don’t see every day. Of the 249 rooms, 195 are luxurious deluxe king rooms. There are even large suites and, for the more fortunate, a single presidential suite.

Tip: Request a room at the end of the hall and you can have a corner full of windows next to your bed.

The bathrooms feature an oversized modern shower and an oversized bathtub. Rooms are also equipped with a 55-inch flat-screen TV and free movie channels, should you need to relax.

For business travelers, the Aurora Hyatt has a full conference center on site, we’re talking over 30,000 square feet of event space, with robust and reliable internet access. Of that, there is also a grand ballroom and meeting space with elite accreditation from the International Conference Center Association, with ergonomic chairs.

The rooms have plenty of workspace and a multi-line speakerphone with voicemail and the ability to make conferences and video messages. Lock your laptop in the laptop-sized electronic safe when you go out.

Or you can take your work to the business room. The business center is set up with workstations, if you need that extra focus.

Travelers who need to move can easily access the Regional Transportation District’s new light rail line and take a direct shot to the airport.

The bottom line: This new hotel raises the bar for Aurora and even Denver.

More about Aurora

The city of Aurora isn’t the first destination that comes to mind when planning a Colorado vacation. But as the area east of Denver continues to flourish, due in part to being home to the medical campus.

It’s worth giving Aurora a second look.

I bet you didn’t know:

  • Aurora has more than 250 different restaurants, including one that was featured on the Food Network.
  • Aurora is home to six different public golf courses. You can even find an 18-hole executive course or set up lessons from PGA professionals.
  • Aurora is home to what has been named the best park for fishing, Aurora Reservoir. You can also dive here (yes, dive in Colorado!) And swim at the beach in the summer. Then there is Quincy Reservoir, which is great for boating.
  • The city also has a handful of large breweries, such as the nationally known Dry Dock Brewing Co. and Two22 Brew. Dry Dock has a ton of awards that have put Aurora on the microbrew map. Dry Dock has won more than 20 Great American Beer Fest medals, five World Beer Cup awards and the Brewers Association of the Year award. Alone, it makes Aurora worth the visit.
  • Aurora has a ton of great public art scattered throughout the city. You can plan a public art tour by following the map. In summer, rent a bike and pedal from install to install. Be sure to stop by some of the local art businesses, such as Aurora’s Silversmith and Intricate Contemporary Carpenter.
