Bjarne Mädel and the tough job of the parcel delivery service

Much has been written about the difficult working conditions in delivery services. The first tells about it in the film “Delivered”. In the main role: Bjarne Mädel, who does his job very well.

Munich – A few clicks and the coveted goods are already ordered on the Internet, from the sofa. A beautiful, comfortable world – but not for those who have to deliver what has been ordered.

The film “Delivered” on Wednesday at 8.15 p.m. in the Das Erste shows the pressure under which parcel carriers are. Bjarne Mädel plays the single parent Volker from the Regensburg area, who works for the parcel service and still barely gets by. He would really like to offer his son a halfway normal life. Volker hopes to get the urgently needed money from an illegal part-time job, but suddenly everything just gets worse.

“Delivered” by Jan Fehse is a sensitive and touching drama with excellent dialogues and lots of puns. It reveals the dark side of prosperity and shows a world in which 60 euros are not simply spent so easily, for example on a dinner with friends. For Volker that’s a lot of money – a chunk on the way to the 350 euros with which he would like to enable his son Benny to graduate from school.

Girl turns out to be a great character actor once again. His people is one who is used to fighting and likes to approach things with humor, but who has also suffered a lot of setbacks. The fact that he is now at the end of his nerves and strength says a lot about how bad his situation is. 12 or 13 hours of toil a day and still hardly any money for rent, food or livelihood.

“Delivered” shows this reality unadorned: When Volker struggles up one flight of stairs with a heavy package and his whole body aches. When the van is so crammed with parcels that there’s no time to take a break, let alone go to the bathroom. And when his boss always keeps an eye on the drivers on their tours and cynically notes: “The Stasi would have been proud of us.” Is it reprehensible to get involved in an illegal second job? A question that worries Volker so that his good friend Lena (Anne Schäfer) soon becomes very worried about him.

Girl knows about the industry. As a student he worked as a parcel delivery man. “Quite a bit of a hunchback and an exhausting job,” he told the German press agency. “The things that you order and then don’t have to lug around yourself go on someone else’s back. I think it’s good that one is made aware of that. “

But “Delivered” is not just about slaving. The film also has a strong emotional level, especially in the relationship between Volker and his son, brilliantly played by Nick Julius Schuck. The only connection is the soccer club SpVgg Lappersdorf: Volker trains, Benny plays. Otherwise there is silence, the pubescent just finds his father embarrassing. A difficult situation that the film portrays without moralizing. Instead, he convinces with a flair for soft tones and even optimism. Because actually Volker and Benny have hidden a great longing under all the anger and stress: for recognition and love. dpa
