After the call of the managing health minister Jens Spahn to enable a third vaccination for everyone, there is now criticism from doctors: inside.
Berlin – Against the increasing number of corona cases in Germany, the Managing Minister of Health Jens Spahn (CDU) has called for a possible booster vaccination for everyone. Numerous medical professionals, however, refer to the recommendation of the Standing Vaccination Commission and are currently still critical of the appeal.
“So far, there is no sufficient scientific evidence for the need for booster vaccinations for people of all ages,” said medical president Klaus Reinhardt to the newspapers of the editorial network in Germany. While the effectiveness of a booster vaccination in older and seriously ill people with often weaker immune responses to the coronavirus has been proven, there is still no Stiko recommendation for a third vaccination for younger and less at risk people.
Booster vaccinations against rising corona numbers: Doctors fear a need for discussion
General practitioners in particular were angry about Spahn’s advance. Armin Beck, member of the national board of the General Practitioner Association, criticizes “that Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn is fueling expectations that booster vaccinations are possible for everyone”, while general practitioners follow the Stiko recommendation and only offer third-party vaccinations for older and previously ill patients. Due to Spahn’s statements, however, the need for clarification and discussion in the practices is increasing.
In addition, Medical President Reinhardt accused politicians of a lack of education and information policy. “It would now actually be the task of the Federal Center for Health Education to inform about the booster vaccination for older people and to clear up the false information in the social networks,” he said. “This fake news is largely responsible for the fact that we have a pandemic of the unvaccinated today.” (Ska / AFP / dpa)
