As Pitchford explains, it was the publisher, that is, 2K Games, responsible for filing a refusal to include PS4 and PS5 among the platforms benefiting from cross-play. However, the reasons behind this decision have not been disclosed.
Until now, Borderlands 3 had cross-play between consoles from the same family. Xbox One and Xbox Series X / S users had no problem playing with each other and will now expand to PC and Stadia. We will see if Gearbox or 2K Games speak more clearly about it.
