Bottas wins in Turkey on a gray afternoon for Alonso and a brilliant race for Sainz

Vattteri Bottas is a released driver after it has been confirmed that he will not remain at Mercedes next season. The Finn, who was second in the qualifying session, started the Turkish Grand Prix first due to the ten-place penalty carried by Lewis Hamilton, the position in which he finished the race. Also holding his starting position was Max Verstappen , who took the podium second alongside his teammate, Sergio Pérez . Carlos Sainz was the rider who won the most positions in Istanbul, he started nineteenth and finished eighth; while Fernando Alonso finished sixteenth.

The Asturian was facing fifth in the race in Turkey, his best position since the 2014 Japanese Grand Prix. However, Pierre Gasly touched him in the first corner when he had won fourth place, an incident for which the Frenchman was sanctioned. Fernando Alonso was also sanctioned for a similar incident with Mick Schumacher, which sentenced him to run at the back of the grid with no comeback options.

Yes, Carlos Sainz overtook Fernando Alonso, thus beginning a spectacular comeback. The Madrilenian, who rose from fifteenth to fifth position in the 2020 Turkish Grand Prix, has surpassed himself in this edition. If in the previous one he won ten positions in this one, he has won eleven. Along with Carlos Sainz , the one who has made the most progress in Istanbul has been Lewis Hamilton , who started eleventh and finished fifth. The Briton, who faced the Turkish Grand Prix with a 2-point advantage in the Formula 1 World Championship over Max Verstappen, has managed to minimize the loss after the penalty caused by having changed the engine. Even so, he has given up the lead and is now 6 points behind the Dutchman.

Sainz has scored, Fernando Alonso has not

Leclerc finished ahead of Hamilton, fourth, who was penalized for stopping so late to change tires. Precisely having stopped is what penalized a Lewis Hamilton who considers that he could have been on the podium had he not done so. Pierre Gasly and Lando Norris , sixth and seventh respectively, finished the Turkish Grand Prix ahead of Carlos Sainz. The points area was closed by Lance Stroll and Esteban Ocon , who was the only driver who did not stop in Istanbul.

Outside the points zone were Antonio Giovinazzi , Kimi Raikkonen and Daniel Ricciardo . That the Spaniard did not score is good news for Ferrari in the fight for third place in the Constructors’ World Championship that it maintains with Mclaren. After Ricciardo, who was thirteenth, Yuki Tsunoda and George Russell finished, both ahead of Fernando Alonso. Behind the Asturian, Nicholas Latifi , Sebastian Vettel , Mick Schumacher and Nikita Mazepin finished the Turkish Grand Prix.
