Chula Vista RV Resort

Chula Vista RV Resort is a 17-acre five-star property in the city of Chula Vista, about 10 miles south of downtown San Diego, between National City and Tijuana. It is on the east coast of San Diego Bay in an area protected from the ocean by the Coronado Peninsula and Silver Strand State Beach.

Judging from the hundreds of online reviews of San Diego resorts that I have read, Chula Vista RV is by far the best place to camp in the greater San Diego area.

Online reviewers say things like “the most beautiful and well-kept park I’ve ever seen” and “the best place we camped.” Those who give it lower ratings complain that the sites are too close together and some think it is too expensive. Everyone says it is spotlessly clean and has great staff.

What facilities are there at Chula Vista RV Resort?

The camp has 237 spaces with complete connections and concrete platforms. They range from 20 by 50 to 20 by 55 feet and can handle a 45 foot platform with a tow vehicle. Some sites have views or partial views of the marina and Bayside Park.

If you want to camp in a tent, unfortunately, you will have to go elsewhere. They do not allow tents in the complex.

You’ll find all the typical Chula Vista RV amenities: free WiFi, bathrooms with hot water toilets and showers, BBQ area, pool and spa, laundry facilities, a general store, and two beachfront restaurants.

In addition to all the usual things, they have a well-equipped gym, with aqua aerobics classes. Other ways to exercise include bike rentals and miles of trails for jogging or walking. The pool has adult hours, a time when they have plenty of activities to keep the kids occupied elsewhere while the adults relax.

The resort is next to a beach and marina, where you can take sailing lessons or launch your boat into San Diego Bay. You can also rent paddle boards and kayaks.

You will find a fishing pier on the south side of the camp next to the marina. Species commonly caught in the area include croaker, small halibut, small rays, smooth sharks, shovel guitarfish, scent sharks, and leopard sharks. Spotted bay bass is also common. Anyone over the age of 16 must have a valid California fishing license. Useful information about fishing near San Diego can be found at Fish SD.

Chula Vista RV has many social activities, including Friday night happy hours and weekend morning coffee.

The park is about a 15-minute walk from the H Street Transit Center, where you can catch the Blue Line Trolley to the Gaslamp Quarter, views of the waterfront, and Old Town San Diego. The streetcar also goes south to San Ysidro, where you can cross the border into Tijuana, Mexico.

What you need to know before going to Chula Vista RV Resort

Dogs are allowed in the Chula Vista RV with a maximum of two pets. They must weigh less than 20 pounds, and some aggressive breeds are prohibited. They charge a small pet fee and have four pet staging areas in the park. All dogs must be on a leash while outside of your vehicle.

Chula Vista RV Resort is privately owned. You can book online on their website.

Fires are not allowed in individual campsites, but they do have a group fire pit for a warm atmosphere at night.
