AutoCitroën's autonomous skateboard that will transport your orders

Citroën's autonomous skateboard that will transport your orders

The Citroën Ami was presented as more than just a car. Moreover, the firm calls it an object of mobility and not a quadricycle , which is what it is by regulation and homologation as it does not exceed 45 km/h top speed and is driven with an AM license. The reason is simple, Citroën no longer only produces vehicles but also mobility services. The My Ami Pop version was once again present during this CES , the largest technological event that takes place in Las Vegas in person but with many casualties. Automotive firms have been attending this fair for years, so the news that reaches us from across the pond throughout this week is not surprising. The first is carried out by Citroën and its vision of the future, which has materialized in the form of a skateboard with the Autonomous Mobility Vision . It is a flat platform of considerable size with four wheels at the ends, a skate to which specific capsules (pods) will be added for different services of associated companies.

As you can see, vehicle manufacturers long ago left behind the concept of producing cars, motorcycles or derivatives. Now they go further, working together with other companies and sectors to meet the needs of the current user, outside the property. Citroën’s objective with this launch is to anticipate the needs of future urban mobility, applying technological knowledge at the service of people without affecting the environment or traffic conditions in a city.

A CES of cars and skates

The Las Vegas technology fair is back with a bang, and a promising future ahead. A future in which the automotive industry is no longer solely for traditional manufacturers and companies such as Sony, Xiaomi and even Apple have launched to develop their electric cars with autonomous driving systems. However, there are many more alternatives making their way to mobility and the Citroën Autonomous Mobility Vision is an example.

It is an autonomous concept called open-source, with a clear focus on improving the fluidity of traffic in cities in a creative way. The idea is to improve the transit experience for users , who simply have to let themselves be carried by a skateboard with four completely round wheels at the ends.

The Citroën Autonomous Mobility Vision

This autonomous and interconnected robot will be able to carry capsules (pods) that may be from different companies and types of service that collaborate with Citroën. With the box on top of the platform, which can be a sofa-type service with wheels or for loading parcels , the Citroën Skate will travel through cities without emitting a single gram of CO2 and continuously 24/7 .

The signature of the chevron imagines a city in which people move around in a relaxed way, reading a book, listening to music or even playing sports. Quickly, you think of the double-edged sword that this type of mobility can represent, which can well remind us of the current subway crowded with people who barely look up from their mobile phones. For this reason, cities must be decongested in terms of traffic and the users of these services will use it as one more tool, not the only one.
