Corona case numbers in Germany: Incidence is increasing rapidly – RKI reports more than 55,000 new infections

The RKI reports the current figures on the corona situation in Germany on a daily basis. How is the data on new infections, deaths and incidence developing?

Berlin / Frankfurt – The incidence of new corona infections in Germany has risen sharply again. The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) gave the seven-day incidence on Saturday morning as 335.9. For comparison: the previous day the value was 303.4, a week ago the nationwide incidence was 220.3. This is evident from the numbers that reflect the status of the RKI dashboard at 3:24 a.m. The value quantifies the number of new infections per 100,000 people over a period of seven days. The incidence is again as high as it was last before Christmas.

The case numbers of the RKI can differ from those of the individual federal states. One reason for this is the longer transmission routes between the RKI and the responsible health authorities. The RKI’s Covid-19 dashboard can also be adjusted during the day.

The number of new infections transmitted within 24 hours has also risen sharply compared to the previous week. As the RKI announced, citing data from the health authorities, 55,889 new infections were recorded on Saturday morning. It was the fourth day in a row with more than 50,000 new infections. In the week before, there were 26,392 new infections recorded.
