Corona case numbers in Germany: new infections are skyrocketing

The RKI publishes new data on the current corona situation every day. On Wednesday, the transmission of the data was initially delayed. The incidence is falling slightly.

Frankfurt/Berlin – In Germany, the nationwide seven-day incidence has fallen again. The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) gave the value of new corona infections per 100,000 inhabitants and week on Wednesday morning (03/02/2022) as 1171.9. On Tuesday (03/01/2022) the corona incidence value in Germany was 1213.0. A week ago, the Germany-wide incidence was 1278.9 (previous month: 1227.5).

The release of the data was delayed in the morning. “The dashboard is currently still showing the data status from the previous day,” it says on the RKI’s website. In the meantime, however, the table on the RKI website has been updated.

The health authorities in Germany reported 186,406 new corona infections to the RKI within one day. This is evident from numbers that reflect the status of the RKI at 07.50 a.m. A week ago there were 209,052 infections. The RKI has counted 15,053,624 detected infections with Sars-CoV-2 since the beginning of the pandemic. The actual total number is likely to be significantly higher, as many infections go undetected.

Experts assume a high number of cases that are not recorded in the RKI data. One reason is the limited capacity of health authorities, for example, and contacts are often only tracked to a limited extent. In addition, according to the laboratory association ALM, there is now a larger number of people whose infection is no longer confirmed by a PCR test – these infections are therefore not included in the official statistics.

With the beginning of the new month, many changes will come into force again: Among other things, the Corona rules will be relaxed in March 2022.

Corona case numbers in Germany – RKI reports 301 deaths

According to the new information, 301 deaths were recorded in Germany within 24 hours. A week ago there were 299 deaths. The number of people who died from or involved a proven infection with Sars-CoV-2 rose to 123,238.

The number of corona-infected patients who came to clinics per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days was given by the RKI on Tuesday (March 1st, 2022) as 5.93 (Monday: 6.08). Among them are many people with a positive corona test who have another main illness. The value is not reported on weekends. The RKI gave the number of recovered people on Wednesday as 11,470,300.
