Corona case numbers: RKI reports more than 200,000 new infections in Germany

The RKI publishes new data on the current corona situation every day. On Thursday, the incidence value increases slightly.

Frankfurt – In Germany, the nationwide seven-day incidence has increased slightly. The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) gave the value of new corona infections per 100,000 inhabitants and week on Thursday morning (03/03/2022) at 1174.1. On Wednesday (03/02/2022) the corona incidence value in Germany was 1171.9. A week ago, the Germany-wide incidence was 1265.0 (previous month: 1283.2).

The release of the data was delayed in the morning. “The dashboard is currently still showing the data status from the previous day,” it says on the RKI’s website. In the meantime, however, the table on the RKI website has been updated. The publication of the current case numbers was already delayed on Wednesday (March 2nd, 2022).

RKI reports number of corona cases: over 200,000 new infections in Germany

The health authorities in Germany reported 210,673 new corona infections to the RKI within one day. This emerges from figures that reflect the status of the RKI at 7:35 a.m. A week ago there were 216,322 infections. The RKI has counted 15,264,297 infections with Sars-CoV-2 since the beginning of the pandemic. The actual total number is likely to be significantly higher, as many infections go undetected.

Experts assume a high number of cases that are not recorded in the RKI data. One reason is the limited capacity of health authorities, for example, and contacts are often only tracked to a limited extent. In addition, according to the ALM laboratory association, there is now a larger number of people whose infection is no longer confirmed by a PCR test – these infections are therefore not included in the official statistics.

With the beginning of the new month, many changes will come into force again: Among other things, the Corona rules will be relaxed in March 2022.
