+++ 3.15 p.m .: The Bavarian Administrative Court (VGH) has overturned the 2G access restrictions to retail in the Free State of Bavaria. The Bavarian ordinance does not meet the requirements of the Infection Protection Act for access restrictions on vaccinated and recovered people, according to a judge’s decision published today.
2G rule in retail: Judges find state regulation not sufficiently specific
In principle, 2G rules are possible for trade, but the regulation in Bavaria does not meet the necessary requirements. The owner of a lighting shop was thus successful with an urgent application before the court.
According to the 15th Bavarian Infection Protection Measures Ordinance, access to retail in Bavaria may only be granted to those who have recovered and those who have been vaccinated. Shops for daily needs are excluded. This daily need is specified in the ordinance with a list of examples, such as grocery stores, pharmacies or petrol stations. The applicant saw this as a violation of her professional freedom and the principle of equal treatment.
Bavarian Administrative Court overturns 2G rule in retail
In the opinion of the VGH judges, according to the requirements of the Infection Protection Act, the regulation must provide sufficient clarity as to where exceptions apply to everyday business. The Bavarian ordinance does not meet this requirement. Especially with regard to employees with mixed product ranges, it cannot be determined with sufficient certainty which stores in Bavaria are affected by the 2G rule and which are not.
Corona: Virologist on the highest number of cases: “The rate of new infections is practically irrelevant”
+++ 11.55 a.m .: The virologist and epidemiologist Klaus Stöhr meanwhile warned against overestimating the number of infections in view of the record number of new infections.
On the broadcasters RTL and n-tv he pointed out that the number of new infections was rising steeply – but that at the same time the number of corona patients who had to be treated in the intensive care unit was not increasing. Both values have “decoupled from each other – that’s why the new infection rate plays practically no role anymore,” said Stöhr.
Corona case numbers: Karl Lauterbach assumes that the number of unreported infections is large
Update from January 19th, 2022, 7.44 a.m .: Federal Minister of Health Karl Lauterbach said on Tuesday evening (January 18th, 2022) the television channel RTL that Germany had not yet reached the peak of the omicron wave. Information on the number of cases
The case numbers of the RKI may differ from those of the individual federal states. One reason for this is the longer transmission paths between the RKI and the responsible health authorities. The RKI’s Covid-19 dashboard can also be adjusted during the day.
The number of new corona infections in Germany has exceeded the mark of 100,000 a day. The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) gave the number of new infections in the past 24 hours on Wednesday morning as 112,323. The day before the value was 74,405, a week ago it was 80,430. It was a new daily high since the beginning of the pandemic.
As the RKI further announced on Wednesday, the seven-day incidence rose to 584.4 – also a new record. On Tuesday the value was 553.2, a week ago it was 407.5. The incidence quantifies the number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants over a period of seven days. It was the sixth day in a row with a new record.
Corona case numbers in Germany: 239 new deaths
As the RKI further stated, 239 new deaths related to the corona virus were counted on Wednesday. According to the latest information from the institute, the health authorities have recorded a total of 8,186,850 cases of infection since the beginning of the pandemic. The total number of registered corona deaths in Germany rose to 116,081. The institute put the number of people in Germany who had recovered from an illness caused by the coronavirus at around 7,098,400.
The RKI gave the number of corona patients admitted to clinics per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days as 3.17 on Tuesday (Monday: 3.14). (skr/afp)
