Vacation time in Germany. According to the Robert Koch Institute, more and more German vacationers are infected with Corona abroad – and bring it home with them.
Berlin – The vacation season is in full swing in Germany. Many citizens are drawn to the south with their family or friends, because summer, sun, beach and sea offer many people perfect relaxation from the stress of everyday life. In times of the coronavirus, however, such a trip also harbors dangers. In its weekly status report, the Robert Koch Institute assumes that thousands of holidaymakers abroad have been infected with the virus.
In the four weeks under review, a total of 3662 new corona infections were reported, which the RKI traces back to trips abroad. Spain, Turkey, the Netherlands, Croatia and Greece are named as likely places of infection. A particularly strong increase can therefore be recorded for Turkey in particular. There, the number of cases recorded per week almost doubled. Other popular travel destinations in the first ten places: France, Italy, Austria and Denmark.
Fight against Corona: Obligation to test for those returning to travel: inside is being expanded
The federal government is therefore planning to expand the mandatory test when re-entering the country from this Sunday (August 1st, 2021). Accordingly, the obligation to test will also be extended to car and train traffic, this applies to everyone aged six and over. Random checks should be carried out at the borders. Anyone who can provide proof of a complete vaccination or proof of recovery does not need a negative test result. So far it is only necessary for air travel to present a negative test result when re-entering the country. With the broader test obligation, the spread of corona is to be slowed down by those returning from vacation.
In its weekly management report, the RKI also makes it clear that the vast majority – namely at least 81 percent – of corona infections continue to take place within Germany. In nine out of ten cases, the particularly contagious delta variant is now responsible for the infection. Such a development was suspected weeks ago.
Corona in Germany: Incidence is steadily increasing
The incidence in Germany is rising steadily again. On Friday (July 30th, 2021) it was 17.0, the RKI registered 2,454 new infections with the corona virus. According to the RKI, the incidence is increasing particularly in children, adolescents and young adults between 10 and 34 years of age. By far the highest incidences are recorded in the groups of 15 to 19 year olds with a value of 40 and in the 20 to 24 year olds with a value of 45. (msb)
