Corona rules for skiing holidays: PCR test compulsory, quarantine and Co. – That applies now

Anyone planning to go on a skiing holiday in winter 2021/22 should find out about entry and quarantine rules in advance. Many countries have tightened the corona rules.

Kassel – In many countries in Europe, the corona situation is tense in winter 2021/2022. Specialists are particularly concerned about the rapidly expanding omicron variant. Anyone who had hoped for a relaxed winter vacation will have to deal again with entry and quarantine rules and possible lockdowns.

Ski vacationers in particular have to adjust to the changed corona rules *, because some countries have tightened the entry rules. The current regulations for skiing holidays in Austria, Switzerland, Italy and France at a glance.

Corona rules: Austria tightened entry measures – travelers have to pay attention to this

A three-week lockdown has resulted in a decrease in the corona numbers in Austria. After the lockdown, skiing holidays are generally possible again. However, stricter entry rules will apply in Austria from December 20th *. Concerned about the spread of the Omikron variant, a 2G-Plus rule applies to travelers. Anyone who has already received a booster vaccination does not need to show an additional PCR test. Anyone who does not have a booster vaccination or PCR test must fill out a form before entering the country and be quarantined for ten days. This can be ended with a negative PCR test.

Unvaccinated people also have to be quarantined after entering the country. This can be ended with a negative PCR test after five days at the earliest. Exceptions apply to children, as well as to people who cannot be vaccinated for health reasons.

Strict corona rules still apply in Austria. Those who have not been vaccinated or have recovered from Covid-19 continue to have strict exit restrictions that make a vacation de facto impossible. In addition, there is an FFP2 mask requirement in closed public spaces. Après-ski bars and bars remain closed. The 2G rule also applies in ski lifts and cable cars. An exception rule applies to unvaccinated young people between the ages of 12 and 15. You can provide proof of 2G via the Holiday Ninja Pass. For this, three corona tests must be carried out within five days.

Skiing holiday in Switzerland in winter 2021/22 despite Corona: PCR test obligation upon entry

Strict corona rules also apply to entry into Switzerland. Every traveler must show a negative PCR test (not older than 72 hours) or antigen test (not older than 24 hours) and register in the electronic portal for contact tracking – regardless of their vaccination or convalescence status. For those who have not been vaccinated and who have recovered, a second test is required four to seven days after arrival. The Swiss Federal Office of Public Health announced that anyone who leaves the country before the seventh day after entering the country is exempt from this obligation.

A mask is required in public transport and indoors. Restaurants and bars have a choice: You can also allow unvaccinated people who have had a test or only allow access to vaccinated and convalescent people. Antigen tests are valid for 24 hours. There is currently no 3G rule for the use of cable cars. If you want to go on holiday in the Samnaun ski area, you should find out more, as a 2G regulation sometimes applies there, reports the ADAC. 3G applies in the Fideriser Heuberge ski area in the canton of Graubünden.

Ski vacation in winter 2021/22: These countries are classified by the RKI as corona high-risk areas

  • Austria – with the exception of the municipalities of Mittelberg and Jungholz and the Riss valley in the municipal area of Vomp and Eben am Achensee (high-risk area since November 14, 2021)
  • Switzerland (high risk area since December 5, 2021)
  • France – including the overseas department of Réunion (high risk area since December 19)

Skiing vacation in Italy: travelers should know these corona rules

Italy has also tightened the corona entry rules. Vaccinated and convalescents must also present a negative PCR test (not older than 48 hours) or an antigen test (not older than 24 hours) upon entry, this rule initially applies until New Year’s Eve. The vaccination must not be more than nine months ago, and the recovery not more than six months. Registration using an online form is also mandatory. Unvaccinated persons must also show a negative corona test (PCR or antigen) and be in quarantine for five days. Another test must be performed to end the isolation.

A 3G regulation applies to ski vacationers. All winter sports enthusiasts from the age of 12 must prove vaccination, recovery or testing in the form of the EU’s digital Covid certificate, reports the ADAC. A 2G rule applies in restaurants or ski huts. Anyone who uses public transport or closed ski lifts must be tested negative, vaccinated or recovered (3G). The German digital vaccination QR codes work in Italy. If the corona situation worsens, the rules could be tightened further.

After your vacation: What you should consider when entering Germany

Travelers entering Germany from high-risk areas must register online using an entry form.

Vaccinated and convalescents do not have to be quarantined. However, you must provide appropriate proof of corona using the entry form.

People who have not been vaccinated or who have recovered must be quarantined for ten days. Free testing is possible after five days at the earliest. Proof of a corona test (PCR or antigen rapid test) is mandatory even before entering Germany.

Vacation in France – these corona rules apply

In France, vaccinated and convalescent people from the EU do not need to present an additional PCR test upon entry. However, if travelers come from a country that is classified as “scarlet”, the same rules apply as for those who have not been vaccinated. People who have not been vaccinated against Corona must show a negative PCR or antigen test that is not older than 24 hours to enter the country.

A 3G regulation applies to winter sports enthusiasts in France due to the increased corona numbers, reports the ADAC. In addition, there is a stricter mask requirement, which also applies in queues and in cable cars. (Sarah Neumeyer with dpa) * hna.de is an offer from IPPEN.MEDIA.
