The number of corona cases and the incidence in Germany are increasing. From August 1st, new rules will apply to DIY stores. What is changing now.
Frankfurt – Sometimes the hardware stores were closed, sometimes they were open. The Corona * pandemic, including countermeasures such as lockdowns, have also shaken retailers badly in recent months. However, DIY stores such as Obi, Hornbach or Hagebau are currently allowed to open under certain conditions, the corona situation has eased compared to spring in Germany.
But threateningly dark corona clouds are gathering on the pandemic horizon. The incidence in Germany is rising again *, now there is even a compulsory test for travelers returning from Sunday * (01.08.2021). What does this mean for retail? The corona rules for hardware stores had already changed on July 1st.
Corona rules in hardware stores: negative tests, stricter admission rules
Since the nationwide emergency brake expired on June 30 and was not extended, the federal states again have sovereignty over the corona measures. In other words: each federal state decides for itself which rules are issued or imposed. In Lower Saxony, for example, stricter rules apply in counties with a 7-day incidence of over 50. This is what the step-by-step plan wants. There applies to the retail trade (including the hardware stores):
- A negative corona test must be presented for a sales area of over 200 square meters.
- Shops that are not part of the basic supply and have less than 800 square meters of retail space also need at least 20 square meters per person.
- With a sales area of over 800 square meters, this area must even be 40 square meters per person.
In Bavaria, a distinction is currently made between two levels. Here, the corona rules are based on an incidence of under or over 50. In Berchtesgadener Land, for example, the incidence on Saturday (July 31, 2021) was 60.4. The rules for retail such as hardware stores:
- There is no need for negative tests in retail.
- The restrictions are based on the retail space.
- With a shop area of less than 800 square meters, it should be 10 square meters per customer. If it is over 800 square meters, it must be 20 square meters.
