Create beautiful moments with your children: having happy memories of childhood helps to have better physical and mental health

Although we remember our childhood as one of the most beautiful times of our lives, surely many or all of us have some memories stronger and more present than others . And it is that when we feel happy, we usually save those moments with great affection in our hearts.

That is why I was delighted to find a study that shows us the importance of creating moments with our children, because according to its results, having happy memories of childhood helps to have better physical and mental health .

The study

Published in the journal Health Psychology , of the American Psychological Association, the study carried out by a group of researchers from the University of Michigan consisted of the analysis of the results of two large studies, with the aim of knowing how memories and memories influenced relationships in childhood with health in adult life .

According to their results, obtained from the analysis of data from more than 22,000 people, it was found that having fond memories of childhood was related to better health, lower amounts of stress, less depression and fewer chronic diseases in adulthood .

Those participants who reported having more caring and loving relationships with their parents during childhood turned out to be in better health as adults . In addition, those who had fond memories with their father had experienced fewer depressive symptoms.

In summary, this study, in addition to reminding us that one of the best things we can do for our children is to nurture the relationship and strengthen the bond we have with them , shows us the importance of the presence of dad in the lives of the children.

Create beautiful memories with your children

In Babies and more we have already said it: the memories that our children will have will not be of their toys or their clothes, but of the time they spent as a family. So let’s do our best to create beautiful memories with our children .

They don’t need hundreds of gifts or extraordinary vacations to be happy. Wherever they are and whatever they have, nothing is worth more to them than those happy moments they share with us .

And now with this study, we have one more reason to remember and prioritize the time we spend as a family : having fun and loving each other.

The FOMO effect (Fear Of Missing Out) is defined as "the fear of missing something". And although it is a concept that has become relevant in recent years, it is nothing new. In the late 1990s, Dr. Dan Herman coined this term.

We live surrounded by technology and it is inevitable that this will be incorporated as one more tool in parenting. In addition to apps that help with things ranging from designing your baby's room to managing the calendar of children with separated parents, devices such as tablets, mobile phones or smart speakers are here to stay. Proof of this is the growing use of Alexa as a timer that children obey without question (or at least without protesting as much as their mother).

When they enter the stage of adolescence, there are many boys and girls who can become dramatic in situations that, for parents, do not have the same degree of importance. Thus, in day-to-day situations, they feel that the world is ending, or they live everything with great intensity.
