Cupra’s history is short, but very intense. After its birth in 2018, the brand began its path towards electrification in 2020 with the launch of the 204 and 245 hp León e-Hybrid, with plug-in hybrid technology, and the presentation of the Cupra e-Racer. Cupra’s initial DNA as a racing-inspired brand was complemented by a new statement of intent: sustainability, performance and sporting character can go hand in hand .
The electrification process of this manufacturer is an example within the automobile industry for its speed and the solidity with which it has been developed. In just two years, four of the five models marketed by the brand are plug-in hybrids and the Born is 100% electric. And in competition, Cupra has won the first international electric touring car championship in history (PURE ETCR), which crowned Mattias Ekström at the wheel of an e-Racer; and also participates in the Extreme E contest with the impressive Tavascan XE.
Nearly 200,000 units have been delivered to date and our turnover has risen from €430 million in 2018 to almost €2.2 billion in 2021 , well above all expectations. And this year, the brand intends to double the sales, turnover and global network of Cupra Masters and Cupra City Garages. In 2025, it will enter a new era with three new electric models: Terramar, Tavascan and UrbanRebel, as well as its updated current line-up.
“By 2025, our goal is to deliver 500,000 cars per year and continue our international expansion into new markets, as well as entering new segments. To achieve this, it is people who count. Because in the end, it is people who make the brand”, announced Wayne Griffiths , CEO of Cupra during the announcement of this new era. “We know exactly where we want to go and I promise you it won’t be boring. Every model we bring to market will be a step forward on our journey,” added Griffiths.
