Seat and Cupra can be proud of those numbers, as well as the amount of prizes they have collected throughout this round in the sun. The latest to be added to its showcase are the awards as ‘Best Car of the Year in Catalonia 2021’ for the Cupra Formentor and the presence of the Cupra Born , Formentor and Seat Arona in the 2021 Axel Springer Motor Awards . Both recognitions focus on the attractiveness of the models, as well as their technological and mechanical evolution without losing sight of the dynamic essence that characterizes the brands.
We have talked at length about the Cupra Formentor, the first model 100% developed by the company spun off from Seat . It is manufactured at the Martorell plant, where the most performance models for competitions such as the ETCR or the Extreme E are also born. The Formentor represented a step forward in the confidence of the Volkswagen group, which provided Cupra with a new range of customers thirsty for exclusivity and differentiation. All this with the possibility of getting a CUV of varied powers, from the most accessible 150 hp to the latest 390 hp VZ5 with the 5-cylinder engine of the Audi RS Q3.
Best Car of the Year in Catalonia
One of the awards accumulated by the Cupra Formentor this year is ‘Best Car of the Year in Catalonia’. The jury, made up of 42 journalists from the print media, TV, radio, internet and social networks , valued the aesthetic appeal, its excellent dynamic behavior and the value for money for the complete equipment of the Formentor. They also value the technological avant-garde that it incorporates with active and passive safety systems, as well as the connectivity that it offers to its users. They do not overlook the degree of involvement with electrification, highlighting the 204 and 245 horsepower plug-in hybrid variants.
But beyond the ECO models of the Formentor, the one that most caught the attention of the jury was the VZ5. We were able to drive it during its presentation and its block 2.5 TSI of 390 CV and 480 Nm of torque did not leave anyone indifferent. This model began its commercialization last year, with a price above the usual but more than justified given its position as a premium, high-performance CUV.
Premios Motor Axel Springer
After visiting Catalonia to collect the Formentor award, it was time to make a stop at the 2021 Motor Axel Springer Awards. Readers and users of the websites of this communication group have valued three models of the company as the best in their segment. The new Cupra Born was awarded as the “Best Compact Car” as well as being the first to start the road to electrification of the firm. The Formentor VZ5 earned the lead in the ranking for ‘Best Midsize SUV’ and the Seat Arona, the brand’s sales leader, was awarded ‘Best Small SUV’.
The firms wanted to have a few words during the collection of the award. Víctor Sarasola, commercial director of CUPRA Spain, declared that: “It is a great success for us, since the Born will show that sporty driving and sustainability are not mutually exclusive, offering all the character and fun of driving, with exclusivity for those who seek to move with the highest technology and the minimum environmental footprint. On the other hand, and as a true reflection of our disruptive brand ambition, readers’ choice of the Formentor VZ5 makes us proud and encourages us to continue making different cars and for true driving enthusiasts. The VZ5, is a limited version for collectors, and is 100% made in Spain ”.
Carlos de Luis, Communication Director of Seat and Cupra Spain, was in charge of collecting the award for the Arona and commented: “It is a great satisfaction for us to receive this recognition for the Seat Arona, a model that has become a key piece for the brand for the quality of the product and, consequently, for the success obtained in sales ”.
