The curse of jumping to stardom through a super franchise seems to be affecting something to Daisy Ridley’s career, as did Mark Hamill with his galactic trilogy or Daniel Radcliffe with Harry Potter . The protagonist of the return of Star wars has dropped from the production of the independent film Daddio , which in turn stars the Oscar-winning Sean Penn. Finally, it will be Dakota Johnson who replaces Ridley in this intimate low-budget film.
Daddio will be directed by newcomer Christy Hall , who also writes and produces this story with her label TeaTime Pictures, along with producer Emma Tillinger Koskoff. To see who distributes the project we will have to wait for its exposure in the Cannes market, however taking into account its two protagonists, it is difficult for this story not to come up with several “girlfriends”.
In the official storyline, Dakota Johnson will be a young woman who gets into a taxi on her arrival in New York. The driver who will play Sean Penn, will immediately give conversation and from a fun talk they will go on to honesty and sincerity that involve sensitive topics such as loss, love, sex and relationships. Deadline has been the one who has given the news about the casting change of a film that as they say “explores the complexities of the human connection and shows that a chance encounter with a complete stranger can change a person’s life”.
For its part, the variety of independent works in which Johnson is participating anticipates that unlike Ridley, Melanie Griffith’s daughter is getting rid of the label of being the protagonist of 50 Shades of Gray . Apart from being in the middle of filming the adaptation of Jane Austen for Netflix, the actress does not stop stringing together interesting projects such as Our friend , an independent drama with Jason Segel and Casey Affleck or Maggie Gyllenhaal’s directorial debut, The Lost Daughter . Sean Penn, on the other hand, has not appeared in a major production as an actor since The Tree of Life . But it is because the Oscar-winning actor has spent several months focused on his fifth film as a director , an independent drama titled Flag day , in which he shares a cast with his daughter, Dylan Penn.
