A third corona vaccination has been an option for many people in Israel since the end of July. According to the latest findings, a booster vaccination is recommended.
Tel-Aviv – Corona * third vaccinations have been administered in Israel since the end of July. The country in the Middle East decided to do this after studies had come to the conclusion that protection against infections in the elderly and those with previous illnesses declines over time. Particularly with a view to the delta variant, which is considered particularly contagious, the re-vaccination is intended to prevent further Covid 19 infections.
In the meantime, the first empirical values are available for the so-called booster vaccinations, which have not yet been approved worldwide. According to an Israeli survey, most people report vaccination reactions similar to those of the second vaccination with the mRNA vaccine from Biontech / Pfizer. Fewer side effects were also observed.
For the survey, around 4,500 people were interviewed who received a third vaccination between July 30th and August 1st. Of these, 88 percent said that they felt “similar or better” in the days after the vaccination compared to the second vaccination against the coronavirus. 31 percent also reported complaints after the booster vaccination, most often pain at the injection site. About 0.4 percent complained about breathing difficulties. One percent or less said they had to see a doctor about side effects.
Israel: Third corona vaccination is to be offered to people aged 50 and over
The results are “first and self-reported” results, but still allow a comparison of the side effects with the second vaccination, explained Ran Balicer of the Israeli health care provider Clalit. Although there are “no long-term studies on the effectiveness and safety of the third booster dose”, the findings would point to the benefit of the third-party corona vaccination *.
The effectiveness of the vaccinations also gives hope: According to a survey at the Beilinson Medical Center in Petah Tikva, the number of antibodies developed doubled after the third vaccination among people with a heart, lung or kidney transplant. The study, for which 40 immunocompromised patients have been examined so far, was published on Tuesday (August 10th, 2021) and is currently being reviewed by experts.
“We recommend anyone who has had an organ transplant to come and get the third shot because it saves lives,” said Dr. Tuvia Ben Gal, director of the Beilinson Heart Failure Unit, in a statement on the results. Up to 600,000 people in Israel have already received a third dose of the Biontech vaccine. So far it has been recommended for people over 60, but will soon also be offered to people over 50. According to Prime Minister Naftali Bennett, 90 percent of new Covid 19 infections occur in people aged 50 and over. (Nail Akkoyun) * hna.de is an offer from IPPEN.MEDIA.
In Germany, the corona vaccines from Biontech and Moderna are approved for adolescents and children. In the meantime, the first side effects and vaccination reactions are also known.
