This open-air community is a great place for nature and wildlife lovers, as you are likely to see deer, ducks, armadillos, and rabbits during your visit.

The lakeside resort offers western cowboy-style themes, plenty of activities, and lodge or camp accommodations. Location

Keep in mind that Disney World is roughly the size of San Francisco and you can spend a lot of time going from your resort to the various theme parks if you stray too far from the action. Fort Wilderness has a good location, especially for visits to the Magic Kingdom theme park; A 10-minute ferry goes directly to and from the Magic Kingdom, making for a convenient way to beat the crowds after the nightly fireworks at Cinderella Castle. The other theme parks can be reached using the free Disney bus system available at all Disney World resorts.

Fort Wilderness is a giant property spanning 750 acres and features a popular dinner show and fun activities like swimming, wagon rides, archery, horseback riding, and late-night outdoor movies and campfire singing. There are also several playgrounds in the complex, fishing cruises on the lake, and a game room with video and arcade games.

There are several pools, including Meadow Swimmin ‘Pool with its corkscrew waterslide and hot tub; a fort-themed children’s water play area with kiddy slides; and the quieter Wilderness Swimmin ‘Pool, a peaceful pool for all ages with a hot tub.

The cabins at Fort Wilderness are basic but comfortable, with two bedrooms and sleeps six in a queen bed, a bunk bed, and a double sofa bed. There is a living / dining room with a TV, plus a full bath, kitchen and grill, and outdoor patio.

You like to camp? The campgrounds are spread over many different circuits, some with full-service RV hookups, some just for tents. And there’s an added bonus for pet lovers: Fort Wilderness is unique in all of Disney World in that your pet can stay with you at many campsites. Comfort stations are air-conditioned, spotless, and have private showers, laundry facilities, telephones, and ice machines. Two Trading Post general stores sell groceries at reasonable prices.
